Nice models. Feels like they come back down to early SW themes instead of overwulving. Is there another way as a non SW player to tell apart blood claws from Grey hunters beside their right pauldron color?

Few details, the biggest is that the Blood Claws use the normal bolt pistol, the one you'd find on normal shooty intercessors. Grey Hunters for their part are using Bolt Carbines.

There's also a difference in the leg armor. The Blood Claws have armor variations that all lack the rim above the knee. Of course, I'd expect many modelers to mix and match bodies and legs between the kits, so that may not be as reliable indicator in the field.

I wasn't a Space Wolves person previously and I'm not sure I'm about to become one but this is the most tempted I've ever been. The Wolf Priest and Battle leader are genuinely fantastic models and the Headtakers look great to boot. The regular guys have what I'd feel is the right level of wolfy bling for line troops. This is a great start to their update and I'm looking forward to seeing what else they get based on these, very happy for the Wolves collectors out there.

This also felt like a real surprise which was nice, I know there have been pretty spot on rumours about these models for a while but I did not expect to see them now!

Absolutely stunning release for me.

When I built my latest SW army, I went for a minimal SW aesthetic, with a few pieces of bling per mini. Seems like that was a good call, as GW have gone down the same route for rank and file.

Also, I already have a unit of 6 Headtakers (aka converted SW Bladeguard)!

Will be preordering this box for sure. Looking forward to the rest of the range!

Thinking about 20 datasheets, here's my predictions:

We know 100% that there are datasheets for: Ragnar, Battle Leader, Wolf Priest, Headtakers, Blood Claws, Grey Hunters (6).

We can make an educated guess that Wulfen and Hounds of Morkai will return (2).

From rumours we can also assume that the following will be included: Logan, Njall, Arjac, Terminators, Wolf Scouts (5).

We can also guess there will be a Wulfen Dreadnought one way or another (1).

That's 14/20 datasheets, so we need to find another 5. To me that's probably Bjorn, Murderfang, Venerable Dreadnought, Stormwolf and Stormfang. BUT given the heavy move away from older kits, I have some doubts about the various dreadnoughts, and the Stormwolf/fang is hardly that popular these days so both could be for the chop. There's also the Ulrik model, which is fairly new in the grand scheme, and that'd be controversial to send him to Legends.

Is there a world in which the vehicles all go and there's maybe enough space in the datasheets for a Primarch? Probably not, but food for thought.

The Stormwolf and Stormfang are definitely sticking around.

I imagine the Hunting Wolves are a seperate unit.

Bjorn will probably get a Redemptor upgrade? And I'm guessing it will be a dual kit with a new Murderfang...

Now this may be a hot take, because the units look so good, but I think both the Grey Hunters and Blood Claws could have been upgrade sprues for Intercessors and Assault Intercessors respectively.

And again, this is the best the Space Wolves have ever looked. Some of the models are simply fantastic. The old 40k and Horus Heresy ranges don't hold a candle to these.

Hey ! I found this article with notes from someone who watch the live https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k/space-wolves-reveal

Quote

All Space Wolves wearing Mk X Tacticus Space Marine armor will have a movement speed of 7″, putting them on par with the zippy Emperor’s Children. The Blood Claws’ gain a rule from the Assault Intercessors, letting them reroll wound rolls of one in melee, or all wound rolls against targets holding an objective.
....
The new Grey Hunters will be equipped with chainswords and three-shot bolt carbines. They will also have a crazy high objective control score of three, reflecting their role as the cool, dependable core of the otherwise ultra-aggressive army
....
As befits its lore, a combination of spiritual guide and medical expert, it will combine abilities from both the Apothecary and Chaplain, able to return destroyed models to its bodyguard unit, and to enhance their combat power with Litanies of Hate.
....

The Wolfguard Battle Leader is a new name for an old concept, a veteran from a jarl’s inner circle delegated to lead a war party. He will be able to lead the Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, or the new Headtakers.
....

Though Headtakers have a new name, they fit into the old lore just fine – they’re aggressive Wolfguard who favor melee combat. The squad comes with three new models Fenrisian wolves, which will apparently fight as a distinct unit on the battlefield.

Like Bladeguard veterans, Headtakers can be equipped with master-crafted power weapons and shields. Unlike Bladeguard veterans, they can choose to ditch the shield, to get a total of six attacks. Even less like Bladeguard veterans, they can declare a ‘Quarry’ unit, against which they have Precision Attacks and Devastating Wounds. And once their Quarry is slain, they can pick another.

Really interesting balance between save and pure punchy for the wolf guard, unfortunately i suspect it'll be shields given the way the game is.

The Vikings are back.  The furries are dead.  Praise the Emperor.  That Wolf Priest with the skull helm is how you do wolfy if you must do wolfy.

SW’s have been far and away my least favorite marines for literal decades.  I actually want to paint these.  I will have that Wolf Priest if nothing else.  I probably won’t ever have an army of SWs but coming from a Dark Angel homer like me, that’s high praise.

This is how you do an update! These are Space Wolves that incorporate the Primaris changes so they still fit the new-look 40k, but retain lots of their old charm. Flanderised elements have been rowed back, and there's a more restrained, thoughtful feel to the designs overall. The bare heads are a perfect example – while some are still quite exaggerated, few are quite as over-the-top or borderline silly as the old ones.

I'm delighted to see more old elements like the plain kneepads, unarmoured backpacks, and older helm styles brought in as options (more of this, please) in the Blood Claws and Grey Hunters, and really like the gradual increase in trinkets and trim as the squads get more experienced, up to the Wolf Guard, who are about as decorated as I like Marines to get.

They've got quite a retro feel – nice for nostalgic hobbyists – and I'm really pleased to see proper boltguns back in place of boltrifles. I hope there are more two-handed options for these, but that's a very minor note. By the looks of things, these follow the release model of having two identical sprues in each box, so there should be at least four two-handed poses.

... and speaking of poses, I'm pleased to see that these are their own sprues, rather than upgrades. Not only are the poses generally strong (a couple of weaker ones notwithstanding), but because the Wolfy elements are quite minimal, I think these'll kitbash well with other marine forces, and thus substantially increase the amount of pose variety you can get in Marine armies. Off the top of my head, these kits will work well for Death Company and Blood Angels successors in general, but they'd also work well for Assault Marines if you dislike the funny ankle vents of the Assault Intercessors.

Has this tempted me over to Space Wolves? On balance, probably not an army, but I immediately found myself wondering whether I could use the character models in particular, and might well pick up a kit or two to use in another army.

Overall, I'm really pleased to see such a solid, thoughtful and well-executed release, which I hope delights Space Wolf fans and general Marine enthusiasts alike. More like this please, GW.

I'm so happy! And it really fits how I converted all my SW Primaris. It's perfect!

If rumors about Russ returning in 11th are true, I certainly do hope they keep Bjorn. It'd be nice to see how he reacts to his Primarch finally returning.

That in mind, we do have more on the way. Logan's already been mentioned in rumors, as has new Wolfguard Terminators. Hopefully we get new Longfangs as well.

What rumours???

Valrak has about 500 videos on what the Space Wolves are supposed to be getting

Leman Russ for the 11th is just wishlist from Valrak. No wisper about it yet as I remember.

For the other rumors for Valrak : Logan on foot with wolf, Arjac, Njal and wolfguard terminator to finish the refresh of SW.

Word on the street (from very reliable sources such as Brother Valrak) is that more updates are coming, including Wolf Guard Terminators, a new Logan Grimnar, etc

..and, potentially to close this edition off - Leman Russ.

Yeah I never heard Valrak share a rumour about a new leman russ. Just wishlisting.

He didn’t.  I understand how it happens.  If you don’t listen to him regularly it’s easy to get what he’s guessing/what he’s wishing for with what he’s actually heard rumors of.  He’s said several times lately he’s heard no reliable rumors of Russ (or any other primarch) returning.

Frankly, as little as they’ve done lore wise lately, bringing any of them back now would be a waste.

I really love the grey hunters, finally we are starting to see again what I loved in 3rd edition about these guys.

As a collector though, I don't need this box even if it's tempting.

I wanna see the rest, esp wolfguard and logan, and maybe spend my hard earned money on them and surely on greyhunter box when it will be released.

We're slowly, steadily making progress regarding the levels of variation permitted among primaris units.

That stood out to me as well. Feels like we are slowly making our way back around to having that variation in basic line units. Maybe we will see that Tactical Intercessor kit after all.

I was at the adepticon preview and in the q&a session someone asked about bjorn and being in a redemptor chassis and the cryptic response given was not positive....or at least that was my impression. Take that as you will.
