shouldnt bloodclaws/greyhunter be the same kit like the EC troops? Then there is room for 1 more :) (Bjorn?)

Think it is really unlikely that they are a dual kit. The bodies and leg poses are all different for one.

Regardless of rules or intent, the lieutenant model looks more like a captain than most captains.

This one does, definitely. The original from Tooth and Claw looked like the barely-Wolfy Lieutenant equivalent he was meant to be. No cloak, no iron halo, and much less surface area covered by the wolf pelt.

It does make me wonder what they think they're going to do if they ever release an actual Primaris-scale Wolf Lord model. This guy pretty much stole all the expected bling.

He does look fancy, but I don't think he's going to overshadow Ragnar on the tabletop.

Not overshadowing Ragnar but the Battle Leader is basically a fancy, wolf-headed backpack short of being Krom. They basically have the same knife, too.

Anyways I apologize for the semantics,  every special marine release got a cool, multipart character decked out to be exemplars of their respective chapters, let's leave it at that.

I suppose there's a sort of "middle ground" in the previous discussion in that while Battle Leaders are effectively Space Wolf Lieutenants, the Great Companies are typically larger in size than the companies of more codex-compliant space marine chapters (IIRC, the Blackmanes numbered around 170 marines and were the second largest of the Great Companies), so it's not outside the realm of possibility that a Battle Leader may find himself in command of a force the size of which would typically be commanded by a captain in any other chapter.

On a separate note, I'm surprised we've not seen any of the previews for the other new models yet. I'm suspecting a late May/early June release for the box, and with what's (supposedly) slated for release, I expected they'd have started showing things off by now. I have a theory they might move the SW previews from Monday to Wednesday, because Warhammer Community loves tacky jokes and "Wolf Wednesday" seems like something they would do.

I would have happily taken them as a dual kit given how I feared they were going the way of Death Company and becoming intercessors+upgrade sprue (and the fact that we've been building Blood Claws and Grey hunters outta the same kit for decade and a half anyways). But examining the poses and armour differences, they're pretty clearly separate kits.

Plus the Space Wolves don't have a 1st Company, they don't concentrate their super veterans in a single company or assign them to overarching Chapter Honour Guard like Codex Marines do. It stands to reason a Great Company could have a 'right-hand of the Jarl' who is technically "the equivalent of a lieutenant" but it essentially as veteran as any Codex Captain (with the swag and threads to match).

Are there any "classic illustration" which depict a wolf lord?

The Battle Leader from Tooth and Claw had a cloak, a wolf pelt cloak, and a Belt of Russ (Space Wolves equivalent of an Iron Halo).

He was plenty wolfy.

Plenty Wolfy but also something that could have wolfed up from a bits box.

Not if you want the pelts to sit nicely.

the model had a pelt, belt and loin cloth all in wolfy design, he had an axe consistent with the ones from other sets and a wolfy head. He even had a distinct chest plate design, wolf tooth on gun, gauntlet design.

hes not as wolfy as the new battle leader, but frankly that model does indeed look more like a wolf lord to me, compared to classic models or other captains.

The weapons, belt, and fur cape is easy peasy, the only feature I'd feel like I couldn't source (at least one that fits naturally) is the loin pelt. Nothing against the model, perfectly in line with the new Blood Claw and Grey Hunter squad leader with a cape give them a +1 in rank.

When are we due to see the rest, again?

Well it would need to be before the preorder date clears the NDA for reviewers etc.

Latest would be the may 22 preview show I guess... this seems only likely if the roadmap is not in order though (wich is entirely possible). With how packed the 40k releases are (and how light the AoS ones ) I find it hard to believe that the coming 7 weeks we only get Thousand sons in the next week preorder, there simply isnt enough non 40k stuff to fill up the 7 weeks.

Another possibility would be they are revealed in weekly monday previews leading up to the boxset preorder date, this would need to start relatively soon. ( although they can drop more in a single week, like they did with blood angels.)

So probably anything inbetween next monday and may 22.

Since they didn't do it this Monday, I suspect we'll see it either next Monday, or they do end up doing the "Wold Wednesday," thing I posted earlier. Personally, I suspect preorders will happen before the Preview show on the 22nd. I'm thinking probably May 17th, but who knows.

Wodan's day for Njal
Thor's day for Arjac

Sadder day for the upgrade sprue that makes the wolfguard terminators ( only saying this as I couldnt think of another day so I went for a sad day and needed a reason why its sad ;) )

Then Sunday the NW preorder with Thousand sons.

With how packed the schedule is for 40k, I expected Wolves and thousand sons to be doubled up on one day, and I must say I was rather suprised they didnt start today with the other spacewolf kits. but yes, it could be something like this :

- 20th -- Thousand sons ( and HH worldeaters if they want to be cheeky.)
- 27th -- Kill team and/or TOW ( and/or HH worldeaters if they dont want to be cheeky )
- 4th -- AoS Vampires rest of release
- 11th -- Spacewolf boxset

That would give 3 mondays, plenty of time to reveal the rest.

But ofcourse this is assuming the releases on the roadmap are in order.

What if they release all the Chaos Factions at once, since they don't get that many new models.

Space Wolves, as I understand it, would need two release waves: one for the army box and one for regular release, just like Krieg and EC before.

So maybe it's Chaos Triple Release and then SW Army Box and then SW regular release.

Just a thought.

EC and krieg both got their non- boxset releases weeks after their boxsets. That will probably happen with wolves i estimate 5-6 weeks after boxset launch the same happened with blood angels too.

Releasing all the chaos codices and battleforces at once could be possible. That’s what GW did last year with the sisters and genestealer cult stuff.

Custodes/Orks and Necrons/AdMech were also released together and Agents came with three Battleforces. And I don't remember an Armybox release alongside a general 40k release.
