But the Terminators are once again throwing up my only issue with this refresh: the distinct lack of sculpted shoulder pads. I'm only seeing them on the characters and one on the Terminator leader. Really hope we're at least getting an upgrade sprue on par with the Blood Angels and Dark Angels one, or we just haven't seen the whole contents of the new kits. Transfers are fine for those who like them, but there are plenty of us out there who don't.

I'm not sure I see the worry; even the ones that come with the flat surface for transfer have SOMETHING on them, whether it's just a doohickey keychain or what looks to be a wolf pelt connection.

Not being able to see Grimirs eyes is very comic book looking.

Its also a good way to deal with the problem of painting eyes.

I'm surprised no one has thought of it till now.

It's what I've done with every unhelmeted head ever.  It's either overcast brow looking grim, or lightning eyes cuz of psyker chicanery.  Everyone else gets a helmet LOL

The bare heads do remind me of this comic.

The problem is that the previous Space Marine refreshes have provided both sculpted detail, and updated transfers to cater to both kinds of hobbyists. I could well be reading too much into it, but at the moment I'm not seeing the evidence that we are definitely getting sculpted pads.

Those of us who don't like/lack the skills to make transfers work on our own models shouldn't have to settle for a blank shoulder pad. So far GW has been very good at catering to both transfer and sculpted enthusiasts. I'm just hoping this isn't the release that breaks that.

Space Wolves have a slightly tricky problem here (albeit one of GW's own making). Space Wolves don't wear the Chapter emblem on their should pads but their Great Company emblem. I model Blackmanes (as I suspect many do) but it would be a shame to spoil it for players who model Iron Wolves, Fire Wolves etc. GW have rather painted themselves into a corner with this one and I suspect that flat shoulder pads is a necessary evil.

Even moreso because we have alot of lore that Wolves change companies with a frequency akin to a Space Marine gig worker, in addition to whenever the Jarl dies and the new guy picks a new totem.

Frankly speaking, even insetting, unless you are the guy that is literally the guy the symbol is about, you have no reason to go get a sculpted logo.

Maybe I've had too much mjod, but it sure looks to me like the Pack Leader in the lineup is sporting a raised Blackmanes icon, whereas the same base model shown directly below (in the claws configuration) has a flat chapter icon.

So at least for that model, there appears to be an option. Though if the kit came with enough Blackmanes pads for everyone, you'd think they'd have used them in the pictures for the rest of the Pack.

Theoretical: the Pack Leader has a choice of shoulder pads because the wolf pelt overhand would make swapping out the standard flat pad for a raised pad problematic AND they didn't want to just issue it with a raised pad either. So he gets two pads while the rest are plain. But there will be an upgrade kit with enough raised Blackmanes pads to kit out the rest of the pack.

EDIT: I had another look after Casual Heresy's comment below and it does indeed look like the chapter wolf icon is raised also (the white background was throwing me off). So there are at least two raised pads for the Pack Leader model.

A valid point, but in the past GW have never shied away from just going with the Blackmanes since they are the poster Great Company when it comes to the sculpted shoulder pads.

By the looks of it though the Terminator kit does have a shoulder pad each for the Blackmanes and the wolf that stalks the stars, some I'll live in hope that it's the tip of the iceberg.

I am also hoping for a BA/DA style upgrade kit  to A) wolf up generic marine kits with variety of bling and armour pattern appropriate pads and B) give me a source the aforementioned armour pattern sculpted pads to do a Red Wolves army in the future.

Realising now though I'm doing exactly what I usually advise against and maybe jumping to conclusions before we have the whole picture. So I'm going to stop here and wait.

Edit Due to The Grey Hunter Leak:

I am a bit torn. Only two sculpted pads on the sprue is annoying but I do like that it's two different great companies.

While it dosen't suit me, bare pads does also help those who want to use transfers for other great companies and successors.

Spelling and Grammar and the Greay Hunter Leak

Logan is fire. Someone understood the assignment on this one.

Please correct me, but what does that put the SW at for remaining datasheets? I believe we have seen 11 new units(including ragnar), and didn't GW say 20 total? so 9 left?

id guess Ulrik, wolf scouts, maybe an upgrade for the redemptor to make bjorn, iron priest.

Logan looks like he's seen some :cuss:, growing his bangs out. I approve.  Also, lol the size of his wolf pelt is the size of his companion Wolves now. Was weird they were supposed to be offspring of the mother but we're way smaller.

Grey Hunter sprue has some double sided chainswords hidden in there, nice.

Lightning claw terminator my favourite. Njal and Arjac look great. These guys are all beautiful.

Thunderwolves / fenwolves, the two flyers and any unrevealed updates could make up the rest but is the combat patrol included in the 20 datasheets?

Has Arjac always had the hammer throwing ability? Because he is a lovely model, but the Thor-esqure hammer throwing is too much:facepalm:

That's my favourite part of this new model, and consistent with his rules today iirc. I think it's a 6" range?

Better the Mjolnir reference than imagining the guy running around the field to pick up Foehammer xD

Yes that has always been part of the character, since he was introduced in 5th Edition in 2008. There's a built in teleporter that returns it to his hand. Keep in mind he predates the MCU and Thor's 2011 surge through mainstream pop culture (as opposed to just classical myth and niche pop culture).

And if you look at his wrist and Foehammer you can see the teleporter connections.

I may not be a Marine player, but Logan's hair and beard make me want to play wolves.

IRL my beard is grey and has the length, but not the thickness- my beard braids always look thin, even when I braid loose. My hair is long enough, but it isn't as grey as the beard.... yet.
