These are incredible. That new Grimnar is one of the best looking models I've seen for 40K in a while. Might even be my mini of the year for this year. Really liking the new Arjac and Njal, too.

Wolf Scouts conspicuously absent as the sole omission from the rumors (unless I missed something).

Likelihood of being a separate Kill Team release: 99.9%

I suspect they'll be released as a kill team in the near future and I have a crackpot theory they'll be in a box facing off against Slaaneshi cultists.

Observations:

- double edged chainsword, neat design with the hilt

- power sword option

- second backpack topper option

- really dig the harnessed chainswords

- nothing exciting going on with the backpacks

-  WHAT DID HE CUT OUT?

Seems to be no power fist for the leader :(

Fascinatingly, unlike most leaks that are someone somehow getting a full retail kit, these appear to be mis-molded sprues.

Every sprue has evidence of parts that haven't been molded correctly. For example on the first image, the two pieces at the bottom left, possibly 66 and 71 appear to be shoulder pads that didn't get anywhere near enough plastic. Same thing with the arm part 20 in the second image. The sling from the gun it should be holding clearly has a gap where plastic didn't reach.

I'm guessing these are sprues that GW was casting to test the molds before full production. Presumably these should have been disposed of, but somehow made it out.

Well I think your right about miscast screw cos the guy eho posted states

So I lucked into a miscast version of the new Grey Hunter Sprue and here’s some key take aways, note though that some parts are too miscast to be able to tell what they are so it’s not a complete picture.

There are 5 grey hunters per A4 size sprue and each set of 5 grey hunters comes with minimum

7 chainswords

8 bolter carbines

14 head options (9 unhelmeted, 5 helmeted)

1 mark 7 helmet, 1 mark 6 beakie helmet

6 front torsos & 5 back torsos

1 plasma pistol, 1 power axe and 1 power sword

13 shoulder pads (2 great company shoulder pads, 1 Ragnars Great Company and 1 Logan’s Great Company)

Interesting note about the leaked sprue. Reading the thread from the Space Wolves reddit the story behind them involved someone selling a job lot of sprues, this is similar to how the Lady Malys sprue supposedly got out. Perhaps someone working at the factory is taking bundles of discarded sprues home then selling them, occasionally they pick up something not yet released.

Any leaks for the new Wolf Priest sprue? I want to know if the hoods are connected to the heads cause I kinda want to use the mohawk one on a battle leader.

Both the grill helm and the beaky helm are a bit special as they have the very distinctive slanted "ears" design which is a hall mark of the mk. X primaris helm.

No other versions of the grill helm have this, and the only other beaky helm that does is the one in the Raven guard upgrade sprue (and on Shrike's belt I guess). The older mark helmets in the sternguard kits for instance have the traditional straight "ears" that you'd find on any mk.7 or mk.6 helmet from kits prior.

Anyway, given that we know the helmets come apart in many parts, i guess it just means the older facial plates are compatible with the mk. X helm.

Still, for now the grey hunters kit looks like it'll be the only source of a mk. X style helmet with a mk.7 style face grill.

Yes that has always been part of the character, since he was introduced in 5th Edition in 2008. There's a built in teleporter that returns it to his hand. Keep in mind he predates the MCU and Thor's 2011 surge through mainstream pop culture (as opposed to just classical myth and niche pop culture).

Huh, never knew that. I am about as far from a Space Wolf fan as you can be, so I'm just happy you guys like it

Are there any indications as to what'll happen with long fangs or thunderwolves?

Nothing official yet.  I posted a list earlier with my best guesses about what is staying and going, but I'll update and repost it with what we know after this update from WarCom.

Staying:

Blood Claws (Confirmed new kit)

Grey Hunters (Confirmed new kit)

Headtakers (Confirmed new kit)

Wolf Priest (Confirmed new kit)

Wolf Guard Battle Leader (Confirmed new kit)

Ragnar (recent, Primaris)

Hounds of Morkai (recent, Primaris)

Njal (Confirmed new kit)

Arjac (Confirmed new kit)

Logan (Confirmed new kit)

Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor (Confirmed new kit)

Stormfang Gunship (Plastic)

Stormwolf (Plastic)

Wulfen (Plastic)

Krom Dragongaze (Firsborn, but plastic)

Ulrik the Slayer (Firstborn, but plastic)

Iron Priest (Firstborn, but plastic)

Wolf Scouts (rumored new kit)

Going:

Logan on Stormrider (confirmed gone)

Wolf Guard (shares kit with current BC/GH, no direct replacement)

Wolf Guard Pack Leader - on foot, in TDA, with jump pack (no models, we're probably losing this mechanic entirely)

Wolf Guard Battle Leader - in TDA, on TWC (no models)

Lukas the Trickster (no model)

Skyclaws (no model)

Wolf Lord on TWC - (resin)

Canis Wolfborn - (resin)

Harald Deathwolf (resin)

Cyberwolf (resin)

Bjorn (retiring castraferrum multikit)

Murderfang (retiring castraferrum multikit)

Wulfen Dreadnought (retiring castraferrum multikit)

SW Venerable Dreadnought (retiring castraferrum multikit)

My speculation is that the space wolves dreadnought kit is being retired, as GW are moving away from character dreadnoughts and castraferrum dreadnoughts.  I expect all the wolf guard pack leaders to go away.  The "staying" kits above come to 18 kits, and we know there will be 20 datasheets in the codex.  The remaining datasheets we currently have are:
Long Fangs (no kit)

Fenrisian Wolves (plastic)

Thunderwolf Cavalry (plastic)

We don't know if the wolf companions with the Headtakers count as a separate datasheet or if they will be part of the Headtaker datasheet - the preview of them seemed to imply they operated independently from the Headtakers.  The Fenrisian Wolves kit may be superseded by the Headtakers/wolf companions kit and may be retired, which may leave enough room for Long Fangs, and TWC to stay.  But it's also possible that Long Fangs will no longer have a unique datasheet, and will simply be a keyword tacked onto Devastators (likewise with Skyclaws being a keyword tacked onto JPAI).

i could see Hounds of Morkai going (even though Primaris), especially with new Scouts expected, as they're just standard marines w/ an upgrade sprue, right? Always felt like a rushed stopgap kit to me.

I'd rather they go and keep an extra Long Fangs or TWC option, than lose one of the latter.

Warcom article just called Grimnar's 4 legged friends "wolves" and not Fenrisian or Thunder. Between that the size of them I fear TWC are going; theyre too small to take a rider IMO and if theyre retconned to not be Thunderwolves then any new Thunderwolves would be insanely big

Idk, that's how half of BA's units work so I don't think they're completely against upgrade sprue as a unit style.

He didn't, apparently they are miscasts he got off a job lot on ebay.

Blood Angels got thoroughly shafted and left in the doghouse though. Good boys seem to be getting all the best treats.

Just had a look at the web store, stormfang/stormwolf just marked as sold out online not TOS. Between that, wolf scouts maybe coming later with kill team kit, hounds of morkai maybe losing old upgrade sprue...it's looking up for TWC and Bjorn possibly surviving this edition

Relatively unexpected, wolf lord krom too.. that one i did expect not to survive though ( altough I thought the model would linger without specific rules, like the DA interregator chaplain )

I wonder if the surviving things then will include :

TWC, wolflord on TWC ( treated like shield captain jetbike rider for custodes) Björn and a single extra "new" oldschool dreadnought datasheet with options instead of 3 different ones. With fenrisian wolves and the certainities that makes 20 i think ?

I'm going to suggest something out of left field because why the hell not:

Sure, that's probably something for the 'crons - but what if it's a Hellfrost barrel for a new take on Long Claws?

My bet is on Votaan; also I would not want to be one of the current model that is equipped with a helfrost cannon right now. Chances are those will do a disappearing-act come the new codex. And the concept of the hellfrost cannon with them.
