Evil Eye
The SW release so far has been pretty great looking; I'll miss the old fully-modular Space Wolves box (I remember when it came out!) and I'm still not convinced about the newer Terminators, as they have far fewer build options and are IMO absurdly large, but overall the models look good. Arjac looks very nice, Njall is pretty cool too, and Logan looks like an awesome model...if you take him off that stupid tactical mountain. Seriously, the sculpt for Logan himself is great but the base is absurd. Just put him on a 40mm as God/The Emperor intended and put the wolves on their own bases if you must use them. With fenrisian wolves and the certainities that makes 20 i think ? Though I expect TWC as a plastic kit to stick around, like the Ravenwing box did, to be replaced later in future updates with a new kit (and perhaps reinforced with new plastic character model to lead them). Maybe they'll let the battle leader on Thunderwolf stick around because the current datasheet photography has him built from the plastic box. In any case, the characters account for 4 datasheets all together. "Build one character unit with bits from the rank-and-file box" is a thing GW dislike very much in 10th, and they are eliminating such circumstance entirely. FormelyKnownAsSmashyPants Posted yesterday at 09:49 AM Share Posted yesterday at 09:49 AM (edited) I know we'd be incredibly lucky for this to happen and I'd say it likely there would be a 99.9% chance it definitely won't happen, but I'd love to see two separate SW upgrade kits, one for Ragnar's Great Company and one for Logan's. Not only could the shoulder pads be different but it could have extra bits more thematically suiting either force. As it stands, however, I'm not even sure we'll get one upgrade kit, let alone two. Especially when considering the large number of base kits the Wolves are getting. lonewolf81 Posted yesterday at 10:10 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:10 AM (edited) We will probably know next Monday, when they will most likely reveal the new combat patrol (we are definitely getting one) plus whatever is left for our range if any :) (scouts - upgrade sprue) I believe this Sunday they will announce T-sons and wolf box for preorder. I think Ulrik will probably vanish to be replaced by the generic Wolf Priest (same thing happened to Corbulo and the Firstborn Sanguinary Priest for Blood Angels). The Iron Priest will probably go and it will just be a keyword on the generic Techmarine. I find it hard to see Krom continuing as most Firstborn Characters have been phased out. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that we have no generic Wolf Lord Character. I can see a great solution being a full upgrade kit in line with the BA and DA one, then some smaller sprues like the current Primaris ones which have say five Tacticus size pads, 3-5 Gravis pads and as many modern terminator pads as space allows, for different great company and Wolfspear iconography. Maybe not as good as full sprues but it would make life easier for many hobbyists by giving them options to cover most units (Gravis pads work fine on Bladeguard as well as Gravis for example). It will never happen. But a man can dream... sbarnby71 Posted yesterday at 01:07 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:07 PM There are some decent 3D printed pads covering the armour marks and companies for the Wolves, even if we don't end up with a big selection. The combat patrols for all of the range-refreshed chapters so far have included at least one upgrade sprue, so yeah we should see both of those the same day. It'd be weird to unveil the Combat Patrol, where the photos will include several of those upgrade bits, and then not show the upgrade sprue itself. Then again, GW has made stranger decisions... I'm also still thinking that Wolf Scouts are being held back for a Kill Team unveil, but if not then we should indeed see the kit Monday. I guess now we just need to wait until 13th Edition to get a proper Long Claws update. I really want this to happen, but I fear that it won't. Today 5/2 we got the Death Guard Faction Focus on WarCom. If they don't do the WE and DG Crusade focus articles on WarCom today, that leaves it for next week. If TS and SW box is revealed Sunday, they'll want to be talking about it all week. So personally I think we have yet another week to go before anything for TS or SW. I think SW alongside TS codex is a realistic expectation since DG/WE had a dual release. Karhedron Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM I am wondering what will be in the Combat Patrol. Normally they include whatever is not going in the limited army box (e.g. DAs and BAs). But the limited box includes both Blood Claws and Grey Hunters. So will the CP be elite-heavy with lots of Terminators? BAs got 2 squads of Sanguinary Guard so it is plausible. Will there be any Battleline units, will they duplicate BCs or GHs from the army box or will there be some Intercessors with an upgrade sprue for decoration? So many questions. Sunday announcements are for the following weeks' preorders, so I think it's definitely possible to have this sunday be the "hey we are doing these boxes on Saturday!" and then have all week be dueling TSons and Wolves articles. I think it's more likely it's JUST TSons this sunday for next saturday preorder, but even that seems unlikely considering we are still within the 2 week Preorder window for DG/WE stuff. So I would expect it not this Sunday, but the Sunday after. Could go either way, though. Joe Posted yesterday at 03:49 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:49 PM Looking at what we've received so far, and looking to the future, I suspect we may see another named character as part of the end-of-edition supplements (Lukas maybe?) assuming those lead into the rumoured Space Wolves (generic Space Marine models) vs. Orks box for 11E, with w/e model comes alongside the 11E codex likely being an updated plastic Rune Priest or Iron Priest. End of editions are always Primarch danger zones, so if the big man comes it'll be then. Failing that, the obvious candidate will be Ulrik; coincidentally Lukas Strifeson can't actually cross the rubicon due to his stasis-bomb. If we still haven't heard anything by then, we can confidently say he's not coming...unless GW suddenly got awfully proficient at keeping leaks at bay.
