I've been a Chaos player since I started in the hobby two decades ago - but over time have sold off much of my collection as miniatures have changed stylistically and life has ebbed and flowed.

Since getting back into the hobby, I've picked up some of the newer releases but never got around to painting them due to how elaborate the miniatures are - I much prefer the simpler and more "military" look of 30k miniatures, which has led me across to making Word Bearers and Iron Warriors forces for that system.

By happy coincidence I recently re-read the Black Legion novels and was intrigued by the Warp Ghosts - basically, evil spectres of Chaos Marines. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Warp_Ghosts

I mentioned this to one of the staff at my local store who then showed me the GW "Concept Army" vids from a few years ago, and this seemed like the perfect way to get my unloved minis painted and into a usable force for casual play without going insane painting trim!

This log will be a slow process of me experimenting with my own take on the ghost concept, and cobbling together usable units and painting them as I pull different miniatures out of the depths of my storage - hopefully I can get a workable 2000pt army by the end of the process! The main objective is quick, dirty, repeatable tabletop standard.

First of ten test miniatures for a Legionary squad - WIP

Process so far has been GW Wraithbone basecoat; GW Nighthaunt Gloom Contrast paint; heavy drybush with Army Painter Matt White.

Next steps will be adding some detail points of interest - red eye lenses, possibly a green wash in the crevices, and I am contemplating selecting specific spots - exhaust vents and plasma most likely - to be painted in Hexwraith Flame contrast.

Basing will be urban grey.

Nice start, though I definitely think it needs some green or some other colour (like the green wash you mentioned) - at the moment its more statue like than ghost like.

Also wondering how much difference the wraithbone base is making rather than white - wraithbone generally gives a warmer, more natural look so perhaps white would be more ethereal?  Never tried this before, so I'm not able to say for sure.

Have finished the test miniature! Process was to add Waywatcher Green glaze all over - then repaint the exhaust ports, plasma and eyes in Wraithbone - Spiritstone Red for the eyes, and Hexwraith Flame for the ports and plasma. Basing is Skavenblight Dinge with Vallejo Sombre Gray.

Reasonably happy with this for the effort to look ratio - these should look ok en masse.
