New and improved Iron priest for MVP. Remember when they could ride thunderwolves? Good times

Edited by TiguriusX
I have removed the IP datasheet because we don't post leaked images...we don't want copyright violations from GW. All good now. Carry on.

@Wispy Does it mention anything about Krom as Primaris? (I’m wondering if that’s just assumed for every Marine at this point as well.)

Nope. Barely makes the distinction between Primaris and First Born. Only Ragnar's Rubicon crossing is mentioned, and its in the context of a resurrection from near death from his battle vs Ghaz. Krom is noted as presently joining Ragnar in hit-an-runs versus the Waaaghs that are converging on Armageddon. Bromance blooming!

You do know Space Wolves are going through the Rubicon, though. like a Wolf Priest as old as the guy in the box is probably not fresh off the Indomitus Crusade.

Primaris will be quietly retired pretty soon IMO
it was al ways just a way to bridge the gap of having different sized models

Yup, it will be like they did with Terminators, no distinction. But it also gives them the opportunity to get rid of some of the old mixed loadout units that are hard to balance with a single points cost.

The codex leaked, I'm not going to share rules but I will share some new lore.

The Iron Wolves and Firehowlers have been retired. A new Grand Annulas has been designed.

Torval Wyrdbane leads the Duskwolves under the new (old) spirit wolf sigil. He succeeds Vorek Gnarlfist, who I guess died. I guess they were feeling so cursed losing Wolf Lords at this point that they picked the most cursed Fenrisian sigil in a 'come at me bro'.'

The Firehowlers are now the Runemarked, led by Hrothvyr Runescar. Their sigil is a wolf head shaped like the one used by the Wolf Spears, except there is a rune mark on the forehead.

@Bryan Blaire Krom endures in the lore.

Anything to note about the Runemarked lore?

    5xWolves
    Desolation marines

PINNING FIRE for desolation marines and they can use oath if nobody else needs it b/c all melee units have sustain and reroll 1s

Annihilators will have 8 total anti tank shots (2 HK 4 LC 2 Predator LC) with rerolling damage when buffed by IP
Destructors will have 6 total anti tank shots (2 HK 4 LC) and extra AP against infantry

Wolves are early turn action monkeys and scoring units (daisy chain them within 6" of a character to grant OC)

After turn 3 Bjorn doesn't have to babysit the home objective and gets to uppy/downy and join the fight using COORDINATED STRIKE

*************************

Couple hours later...after experimenting with lists I'm bummed out...I predict the SW players will end up using good old Gladius instead of our new detachments

GLADIUS TASK FORCE

Bjorn w/MM
Iron priest
Iron priest
Wolf priest
Wolf priest

3xHeadtakers + 3xWolves
3xHeadtakers + 3xWolves
10xWulfen with hammers

Lancer

*Wolves and their ability to gain OC and do actions are one of our strongest codex items

Max out wolves!!!

This list has everything it needs from a Gladius detachment
Can put 1 or all wulfen into assault doctrine so they gain advance and charge

Can fight on death for 2 CP guaranteed so you don't need murderfang or his wulfen aura

Wulfen will crush infantry with lance or destroy monsters/vehicles b/c they have anti 3+ and 3dmg

Wulfen will be able to storm objectives b/c wolf priests have 12" aura buff

The vehicles with rapid fire will punch through anything without an invulnerable save (lancer and storm of fire is ignore cover + AP)

Don't need oath +1 because lancer has S14 guns and annihilator has S14 hunter killer and S14 special predator LC

With iron priest rapid fire buff the lancer provides quality shots (3 anti tank) and the annihilator provides volume (8 anti tank)

Silly question incoming on the above detachments.

Are these pre organised lists in the codex or lists people have made?

Very little. Just this. I assume they Runemarked continue Bloodhowl's practice of marking their armour and bodies with the runes of their sagas continues.

"RUNE WOLF

The Rune Wolf represents foresight and fortune. Hrothvyr Runescar, Wolf Lord of the Runemarked and successor to Sven Bloodhowl, took this sigil as his own"

Wyrdbane & his Duskwolves on the other hand got two pieces of lore!

One a saga

"Neath summer's brief fire was he born,

and in winter's chill dark did he find his home. Wyrdbane his name, earned and chosen well,

the low cunning of the wolf was his gift.

In Wolf Guard's serried ranks did Torval Wyrdbane march,

and to the cry of 'Russ!' was steel-blue Vorskyr drawn.

Fangs bared he joined the fray with savage vigour,

and so was Vorskyr's keen edge made crimson slick.

Amid sword-clash did Gnarlfist meet his doom,

and in pack-moot was Wyrdbane his inheritor proclaimed.

And so, denying curse and fate, Wyrdbane in his pride decreed,

the sigil of the spirit wolf would be his own.

In vengeance did Duskwolves put the Red One's sons to sword,

and in their snow-melt tread were made mountains of the dead."

And then this

"

THE SHADOW WOLF

The Stygius Sector lies on the far side of the Great Rift from Fenris. This region of the Imperium has fallen under the malign influence of the Thousand Sons, bitter foes of the sons of Russ. Cut off from reinforcement, Imperial forces in this sector find themselves

outgunned and overwhelmed by traitor forces. Command structures and planetary governments are continually undermined and infiltrated by the nefarious plotting of their sorcerous foes. At the fringes of this madness stalk the Wolf Lord Torval Wyrdbane and his Duskwolves. The Shadow Wolf and his hunter packs provide hope to the Imperium's besieged citizens amidst an ever-swelling tide of misery. Wyrdbane himself has taken the heads of no fewer than four of the Thousand Sons' Sorcerers, most notably Kayesh Vrall, the Whispering Despot of Kalimvar, the final victim of the Duskwolves' purge of that corrupted world"

These were the first ideas I came up with for testing

I have now run a practice game with them and have feedback

If you are going to use the IP and use vehicles I think you need to run Gladius.  In my test game the annihilators shots kept bouncing off 2+ vindicators and I got real annoyed.  Storm of fire to strip cover and give extra AP makes the rapid fire shooting so much better

Second thing I learned is 3 giant bricks of wulfen are too much...the list needs more utility

This is the next list i will be testing

Gladius Wulfen - Space Wolves - Gladius Task Force (2000 Points)

How vehicle heavy is your meta? Do you think this list could use more anti infantry?

Very vehicle heavy

Knights are around

Custodes solar spearhead with tons of dreads

DeathGuard with bloat drone spam

UltraMarines with tons of vindicators and other vehicles using double oath

Enemy infantry doesn't actually scare me...I can either get them first with good SW mobility and advance + charge or I can fight on death for 2CP and take them down with me

What did they do with Wolf Guard Terminators? I normally have Arjac with a big block of storm shield, t-hammers with a pair of cyclones. So far reading what I have read, I havent seen anything about him or the terminators.

Arjac is still there but Wolf Guard Terminators have changed a bit. Squads are now 5/10 and every model comes with a Storm Bolter and MC Power Weapon. 1-in-5 models can upgrade to an Assault Cannon and Power Fist (no Cyclones or Heavy Flamers). Any model can trade their Storm Bolter for a Storm Shield. The Leader can take a Relic Great axe or Twin Lightning Claws.

So you can still take a mixed shooty/melee squad but it is quite limited. Arjac is quite a beast. He hits like a ton of bricks and gives the squad fight on death on a 4+.

And no Chain Fists either...

really mystifying choice GW made for WG Term weapon choices.

It reflects what is in the new WG Terminator box. If you want Chainfists etc, you can still take the standard codex Terminator squad (suitable painted and decorated if you wish) or you can take WG Termies with their specific rules and mixed melee/shooting loadout.

wolf guard terminators new 2025 space wolves

Power weapons? Really? That makes them worse than chaos terminators. Mine all have spears as they are Spartan terminators so that will carry over to power weapons instead of hammers which is lame. Even worse the heavy weapon options. A far cry from the Wolf Guard of old where all ten could get Assault Cannons and storm shields. Really starting to dislike 40k between killing customization and boring same old terrain that looks the same every fight, they are seriously sucking the fun out of the game.

Does Bjorn and the Venerable(in case I cant use Bjorn) at least still get to pick his ranged weapons?

I mean we're 8 editions separated from when WGT could take all of that.  Even current/index WGT can only take 1 heavy weapon per 5.  As for them only having power weapons, I was pretty concerned about that myself when they were first announced.  However, through our detachments and stratagems they get access to enough ways to work around it (+1 to wound, or Lethal Hits, or Lance).  Taking them with shield and power weapon makes them fairly strong with their core -1 to be wounded rule.  The big axe the sergeant can take is also properly dangerous (similar to a Damage 3 thunder hammer).  Alongside which, they're master-crafted power weapons, so they're damage 2.  Much better than the damage 1 weapons Chaos Termies get.

IMO the big loss for our terminators was the loss of combi-weapons.  Both in how they did combi-weapons this edition, and that we now can't take them instead of storm bolters.  Back around 3rd-5th I would disembark a squad of WGT with combiplasma from a Land Raider and gun down my oppo's melee unit before charging in to finish whatever was left.

Bjorn and Venerable Dreads do get a choice of weapons, though it's now only Assault Cannon, Helfrost, or Multimelta for their heavy weapon.

MC Power weapons so 4A S5 Ap-2 2D.

They are slightly less good at dealing with tougher targets but slightly better than regular Termies at dealing with elite infantry. If you want TH/SS, we still get access to Assault Termies.

But they can’t be accompanied by Space Wolf heroes, so are they actually Space Wolves, or just icy Ultramarines…?

Don't mind me, still frustrated by the rules this Edition - I should know better than to get my hopes up with GW.

I am aware. Just lamenting how much we have lost over time. That was also back when Assault Cannons were the most vicious ranged weapon in the game. I still remember towards the tail end of 2nd when the Blood Angels got a Mortis dread with two twin assault cannons and everyone was crying foul at how broken it was. My friend only played the SW WGT Assault Cannon spam at tournaments because he thought it was funny to do so, it was the original leaf blower list.

I think my plasma cannon is painted with blue coils anyway so now its a Hellfrost cannon I guess.

Just sourcing the bits for that would have been a nightmare today.

It was a nightmare then. Bits are easy now with 3D printers. Its the only way all my terminators have power spears and Greek Hoplon Shields. I would have had to green stuff sculpt them myself back them.
