Hello, so I have been advised to post this here as well.

This is a follow on from my previous post that I was advised to ask here.

To summarise quickly, my 3 boys have recently gotten into the hobby and started armies, I haven't really played the last 5 or so aditions so was hoping for some advice as they build their armies).

We have Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Dark Angels. Ideally trying to get the all to 1000 points, while keeping things fairly balanced...the ork player is the youngest and will get very upset if he is constantly tabled by his brothers.

The ork army at present consists of:

+ Character +

Beastboss [80pts]: Warlord

Painboss [60pts]: Grot orderly

+ Battleline +

Beast Snagga Boyz [105pts]

. 8x Beast Snagga Boy: 8x Choppa, 8x Slugga

. Beast Snagga Boy w/ Thump gun

Beast Snagga Boyz [105pts]

. 8x Beast Snagga Boy: 8x Choppa, 8x Slugga

. Beast Snagga Boy w/ Thump gun

+ Mounted +

Squighog Boyz [160pts]: Bomb squig

. 1 Nob on Smasha Squig and 3 Squighog Boyz

. . 3x Squighog Boy: 3x Saddlegit weapons, 3x Squig jaws, 3x Stikka

++ Total: [510pts] ++

I have no experience with orks so need most help with this.

My though had been maybe transport, or something heavy/ranged (dread/killa kans?)

His brother both have terminators and one has a redemptor dread... I imagine his difficulty will be getting close and the surviving when he gets into combat.

As I said I have no experience playing orks so maybe this isn't how it will work out.

I guess the question is how to expand this to 1000 points in a way that will be effective against marines/terminators so he gas a fighting chance and enjoys his games.

Thanks

There’s a lot of things that can lead to him getting tabled constantly his army list is not the only one of those things.

Experience, understanding of the rules, understanding both armies strengths and weaknesses, board layout, direct match ups, bad/good dice rolls and more will play a much larger role who tables who.

It’s not a cheap hobby so it’s probably not worth buying more stuff to not get tabled until he’s enjoying it.

finally there’s two more parts to the hobby along with “play” which are build and paint which he might enjoy doing. Some of the best painters I’ve known were terrible at playing the game.

Another newbie Ork player here. I have zero playing experience so take anything In type with a massive pinch of salt. That said, I'm trying to do something very similar, building an Ork and SM armies up from Combat Patrol onwards for me and my son.

I did a quick Google on 'what Ork unit to delete terminators' and had a review of some Reddit comments. I find this approach generally finds someone with a better grasp of maths than me! I'm this instance, your smasha squig looks useful.

I'd then try the same approach to see what could take out the Redemptor dread.

Do have a look which rules will lean in to your Beastsnaggaz on the table top, something like Auspex Tactics on YouTube might be helpful here.

Of course, I haven't taken my own advice as my lists are built from the different box sets I've gathered (for the Orks that's the old Combat Patrol and last year's (?) Stompa Boyz. As my army grows beyond the Combat Patrol, I'll go for the Dread Mob detachment.

Whatever happens in the games, your youngest will have the most fun army - da Orks!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

He just needs to remember the one golden rule when playing Orks:

'Orks are never beaten, they just go away to regroup!'

I have to live by this motto as i've only played 7 games so far with my Bully Boyz detachment and I have a record that reads like Leicester City's home form - WLLLLLL:woot::facepalm:

Aside from that I can't really give any helpful advice but i'm sure there are some seasoned Ork experts out there.
