What do you picture – or play – when you talk about an Epic-scale army? Is it a mixed force, with companies of infantry attended by supporting tanks and a Titan or two accompanying them? Do you delve into a particular theme, like an entirely tank-based force, or an all-bike army?

There's no great reason for me asking; just interested to hear your thoughts. Thought the topic would make a nice excuse for you to post up your armies, too.

This picture is from an event I attended – Maximal Fire's Corsair Gambit, which was great fun. It shows my Salamanders and a Legio Maximal Titan taking on Jon from Battle Bling's World Eaters. A very fun game, even if I got quickly minced!

Between the lovely terrain and varied armies, this is just what I like to see. Looked even better in turn two, when all our infantry debarked their transports :)

I've been deeply disappointed by the way Infantry just dominates in this game, because I was really hoping combined arms would be king.

Maybe the FAQ changes will bring things into balance a bit more but I can't help feeling like it won't massively upset the apple cart.

Infantry might dominate in LI, but for the other four (or more depending on how you count them) Epics in general, combined arms is the way... ;)

I mainly play Epic: Armageddon, which in particular tends to reward a combined arms approach since beating the enemy is not just a match of attritive dice-buckets but a coordinated effort of preparatory fires, maneuvering support elements and eventual decisive mechanised assaults. Unless your forces are heavily skewed for some unique playstyle, like fully teleporting Necrons or Titan legios, most well-functioning armies harken closer to WW II battalions with a distinct core theme and a sprinkling of specialists. On the table that materialises as nice and fluid lines where the forces jockey for position, always capable of punching through gaps yet mindful of deadly crossfires they'll end up in should they do so unsupported.

Some pictures from good games we've had. I now also realise that I should probably take proper army pics at some point, I've got plenty of new stuff painted after the previous ones were taken.

Wonderful idea for a thread! I'll gradually add some photos here, so as not to spam

For me an Epic army will always go back to how they were presented in White Dwarf of yore, with a combined arms force of titans, infantry, vehicles on colourful terrain.

It took several years to make this Crusade-era World Eaters force. Presented in a photo as if about to be used in a battle report - it has actually grown since with more Titans, but I think at last count was well over half a chapter's worth of Marines (600+) and about 12k of points if playing Epic Space Marine. I will say I never want to paint a tiny Rhino again
