When do you take which character with which unit?

jump chappy with JAIs to make a MW bomb unit on the charge.

 

gravis captain with fists for aggressors is a given, if the points are available biologis as well to give the unit some serious OC potential.

I'd love to try this in a Librarius list but it's super hard to find room for them.

When running Angelic Inheritors, it is important to decide which units do NOT get a Character too. For example, AI is mostly about rerolling 1s with Carmine Wrath so Assault Intercessors are worth a look because they reroll 1s to Wound natively and can reroll Hits when attacking the OOM target. This means the make good cheap scoring/trading pieces because they don't need Characters so much.

 

A 10-man Hellblaster blob with an Apothecary is a great choice since he can resurrect those who blow themselves up and also buff hits and wounds. Add Strike Now for Glory so they can pretend they are Dark Angels.

Here are some “fun,” more casual character and unit pairings I’ve been running in a crusade campaign that have performed well even if they’re not optimal: 

 

Captain and Bladeguard Ancient in a full unit of Bladeguard: definitely not the optimal setup (that’s probably a Judiciar or LT), but man do they wreck face on a go turn. 
 

Librarian with Sternguard: giving Sternguard a 4+ invul and getting the Librarian wound rerolls into the Oath target on supercharged smites is fun. 
 

Chaplain and Assault Intercessors: again not an ideal pairing, but they work well together still. Captain would probably be more optimal here to get rerolls when he has devastating wounds up. 
 

And I’ll be adding an Apothecary and Hellblasters for the next game, that seems like a pretty natural pairing.
