TheVoidDragon
Quite a surprise to see it's just an updated version of the classic design, rather than some brand new unique "primaris" creation that just does the same thing. Antarius
The new kit looks good, but I literally have a moving box full of old Drop Pods (yes, I did spend five years in a madhouse right after assembling them, why do you ask?), so I won't be replacing them, pretty much no matter what. I do sort of wonder about the size of these and how it'll work on the smaller tables people generally play on now. I know they've used 3d prints in the past, but this is quite stark on the bottom of the fins. Unless that's not what I'm seeing and it's just brush marks, but that'd be even more unusual. You can see layer lines on the inside as well as on the bottom of the fins, and on the middle of the metal part on the right-hand fin. ChapterMasterGodfrey
I like it and I hope they say "ignore the doors when measuring to and from this model" or words to that effect. That way no arguments and people with permanent doors up pods can still use them. INKS
Where is @Chapter Master Valrak There it is. He's been talking about this for some time now, so it's not a huge surprise for me. However: Why? why why why why are the doors forced open and part of some tactical rocks? this makes it a worse model in my opinion that the doors do not move, close, and so on. Apparently this is because of tournament players and to make or have rules on where you measure from. Why is it only 5 marines per pod? -- maybe it always was? --EDIT: It was pointed out to me that it's 2 per door, I see it now. It creates a choke hold on the door when getting out so it's poor design but I guess it's always been like that. lol No guns? Considering they are taking into account tournament players... where on Terra does this thing fit? It's footprint is HUGE looking. Having a model where the doors are static makes it harder to place. When you look at a tournament table and all their L shaped buildings and so on... placing this might be hard. I can see it being a problem. placing more than one of them? even worse. I dunno, in some ways it looks a little nicer a little more streamlined, in other ways it's just a loss. Its just worse than it used to be. SIDE NOTE: I could see this being used as some nice scenery, all cut up or blasted / crashed. de Selby
I'm glad the primaris space marines now have their own dedicated way to get to the battlefield from space. It's an important model from an army theme point of view. Hopefully the model simplification means it won't be too expensive. Naryn
I wonder if they upscaled it. No way you're getting two intercessors into one of those bays. It required some suspension of disbelief for oldmarines, frankly. I like the change to the interior, more closed-off bays is nice. I wish they'd go whole-hog and bring back the OG Forgeworld design with the fully enclosed bays and 5-man pod, that was really cool. soviet1337
I suspect this might be in the slightly cheaper and less sharp plastic that they've used for terrain in the past. (And endless spells for AoS maybe?) Remaking it as effectively a terrain piece without options would make more sense then, and might allow them to make it a bit cheaper (or at least to better dodge the next price rise). Yes I think it will be possible, but the interaction with the rules might be wonky as a result. I get the impression that the rules will be very specific. L30n1d4s
Hopefully they have useful (but not overpowered) rules that make them viable on the tabletop. Looks like they will still only hold 10 models (12 would have been ideal, allowing either attached characters or two squads of 6, like Badeguard), so the rules improvement would have to be something else. I'm hoping for 1) keeping turn 1 deep strikes and 2) a buff to the disembarking unit (i.e. +1 to charge rolls and -1AP for all attacks for a unit that disembarked from a Drop Pod this turn, or something like that). If you had buffs like these and made the points reasonable (I'm thinking around 60 points per pod), plus made them DTs (so you could take up to to 6 of them), I could see them really getting some play in competitive 40k (again, without being OP or "auto-take") Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385688-new-drop-pod/page/2/#findComment-6105061 Share on other sites

Magos Takatus
I've never actually bought a drop pod. Indy Techwisp
Is it possible for Space Marines to get a new/refreshed kit without complaining about it? nodnol88
Model isn’t a surprise given Valrak’s rumours, but the timing of the announcement is. They posted something about fast attack on their socials the other day, with the art depicting the old landspeeder. Makes me wonder if the new landspeeder rumours are just that, a new landspeeder, and not a variant of the Stormspeeder. I also then wonder if we’re getting a drip fed approach for this next release of Marine kits? I will definitely pick these up. When I left the hobby Drop Pods weren’t a thing yet, or at least I don’t remember them, and since returning I haven’t bothered with anything First Born because the expiry date is a little too short for my liking, so there’s a gap in my collection.
