Alright, so I’m back in the hobby in over a decade. When I last played power fists went last and there was no primaris. I came back last January deciding to play around with Blood Angels. I got the 9th edition combat patrol so I have,

Librarian

5-intercessor

5-infultrator

3-aggressor

impulsor

This year I picked up the new codex and new Combat Patrol.

Captain

10-assault intercessor

2 3-sanguinary guard

I also picked up Dante and 5 jump a-intercessors (death company) and have just recently purchased terminators and eradicators (3). My points come out to 1505. I’m looking to eventually bring my army up to 2000, I have my own ideas, but looking to see what others might advise. I’ve maxed out power fists, inferno pistols, plasma pistols where I can. My terminators are all power fists except sgt with chain fist, and a cyclone. Sanguinary guard all swords cause the spears are kinda lame. What are your thoughts?

Looks a promising start. I would agree with @Jolemai that you could use some fire support, particularly anti-tank. While BAs can handle tanks in melee to some extent, there really are times when you need to be able to reach out and swat a tank or monster that is cowering on the other side of the table. I would advise avoiding any old Firstborn Marine units as 11th edition is coming next year and there is a good chance they will be moved to Legends. With that in mind, here are some popular Primaris fire support units.

  • Gladiator Lancer: This tank knows its job and excels at busting armoured opponents from long range. The only downside is that it is almost useless against horde armies.
  • Ballistus Dreadnought: A very good fire support platform. Not quite as good into tanks as the Lancer but it is more flexible as it has 4 shots and its missiles can fire Frag rounds at infantry if you run out of hard targets. It is also a bit more durable with a 2+ save.
  • Eradicators: Lots of lovely melta, these guys are shorter ranged than the others I have listed so you might need some way to deliver them to their target. The advantage they have is that they are infantry which makes them more flexible. It also means that you can run an all-infantry force which in turn means that your opponents will lack any good targets for their anti-tank guns.

3 More Aggressors lead by a Captain in Gravis Armour (Especially in the Angelic Inheritors and Liberator Assault detachments) is a solid brick that can take a lot of damage and hit really hard. If you go Boltstorm instead of Flamers, the Apotacary Biologis is a solid pickup too, giving the unit Lethal hits. (Flamers are real good on them though)

I was considering getting 3 more eradicators. The aggressors I have bolsters and launchers, I was considering making my death company 10 and getting Lemartis for them. Would more aggressors lead by a captain really be worth it? I was kind of trying to find a way to get Mephiston in my army, but he is so expensive.

Eradicators are not good enough fire support in my experience.    They lack the range you may need, as well as not quite enough punch.   Ballistus Dreadnaughts or Vindacators are my go-to.     Gladiator lancers are good, but I don't care for them as much myself.

I was considering a ballistus, what about a repulsor executioner? I just don’t know if I want to stay mostly infantry or have some vehicles in there, of course in time I’ll build my army up more, but for now I’m trying this.

The Ballistus is a good choice with great all-round firepower and a good special rule.

The Repulsor Executioner is more expensive in terms of points. While it has good firepower, its special rule only kicks in against heavily damaged targets. For a few more points you can get a Land Raider which I think will do more work and can carry your Assault Intercessors.

It’s hard to find a base model land raider, the website is out of stock constantly and even local stores around Atlanta don’t have any. I would love one for my an intercessors as I can then move them quickly. I hate that primaris can’t use rhino. I’ll work around a ballistus in the mean time. Should I make my DC 10 man or keep it 5? Also is it worth it to find a way to fit Mephiston into the army?

Okay, so this is what I’m looking at now:

-Dante

-Mephiston

-Lemartis

-Captain w/powerfist & inferno

-Librarian

-10 assault intercessors (lead by captain)

-5 intercessors (lead by librarian in impulsor)

-Impulsor

-10 death Company jump packs (lead by Lemartis) maxed power fists, inferno, evisorator and plasma

-3 Eradicators

-3 Aggressors

-3 Sanguinary Guard (lead by Dante)

-3 Sanguinary Guard

-Ballistus Dreadnaught

-5 Terminator (power fists, cyclone 1 chain fist)

-5 Infultrators

How does this look now? I figured Mephiston can go loan or join one of the foot units as needed through the battle. Comes to exactly 2000.

Mephiston is not allowed to join any squads, he must operate on his own. Aside from that it looks like a fun and solid army.
