Spiny Norman
How compatible are these two Kill Zones? From pictures the style of Volkus looks similar to Fronteris and the old Ryza ruins, does anyone have both or knowledge of both and can say more definitively? I don't need the parts to be compatible, more that I want them to "look right" together - I've got Fronteris but it's quite flat, and I was hoping to add some height with the Volkus buildings. Bouargh
Most scenery kits share common features at least in terms of details and scaling, although compatibility as such remain somehow subjective. In my opinion, unifying with a common paint scheme helps. Once that said, I however do not really mix my own Sector mechanicus/administratum scenery with the Fronteris range. I own both but they do not mix and match that well IMHO. Yet it is only an opinion of mine, so it worths what it worths. To give height to Fronteris range I would rather bet on ash desert range from Necromunda. Volkus itself, although a tad less high than mechanicus or administratum ranges, blend better with these. If you however play on big tables, you can splash groups of scenery of each range and getting a global outlook quite OK. I've never shot pics of my own sets together but I may try in a few days. Edit: Mike Zulu's blog has nice pics of mixed sceneries with Fronteris range, it might be of interesting for you Edited May 2 by Bouargh Spiny Norman and skylerboodie 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385780-kill-zones-volkus-and-fronteris-compatibility/#findComment-6107541 Share on other sites
Bouargh
@Spiny Norman: I made some shots of buildings and ruins side by side so that one can estimate de height difference. On the left the Volkus building with the chemical tanks built in and on the left a ruined Ryza Pattern Bunkerhab - floor and roof level are at the same height. Only the second Volkus specific building gives a single platform that is higher and suits for a sniper or so (not depicted here). An overview of various types of structures from hill type landing platform, Volkus building, Sector administratum ruined wall, fuel tanks from Necromunda/similar to armoured container, and the clipped building sprue released with 9th Ed started and reissued in Volkus. And finally a size comparison between Volkus on the left (believe me), clipped building and 2 storey administratum sector. It scales from smaller floor level to higher... Something like 1" between the two first and another 13 or more between the clipped building and Sector administratum. Mixing and matching Volkus with Fronteris (Ryza type HabBunker for example) will not necesarily bring that much height. Granulosity probably as Fronteris is kinda lean and clean. Struturally, Fronteris and the 2 genuine Volkus Building are closer in design because of the apparent structural beams. Rest is a matter of personnal preference. Hope you find it useful.
