BrutalCities
I think everyone here, from the mods to site owners and users have done a great thing with the latest software & vibe here. I will confess though, while I still love 40k and GW games (some much more than others) I've been into it since I was 12... And as such my personal interest in 40k is not as it used to be. (Having said that' I'm slowlyyyyy adding working on re-doing my 3rd ed steel legion army) There are so many fantastic rules, miniature agnostic or otherwise from indie designers, and smaller companies that have really captured my attention. An example of this is Zona Alfa. (pic from recent game for interest) But anyway, the point of the post is that this forum user interface is just leagues apart from all other hobby forums. I think the Lead adventure forum is good too, but this is more modern and easier to use, and well designed. Is there any plan to expand the forum to invite other hobby communities and games for their own boards? I'm sure a lot of people are over facebook. Brother Tyler
Thanks. A lot of people have worked very hard over the last 25 years to create a site that supports the community in its hobby efforts. It goes without saying that it is a perpetual work in progress and we will continue to improve the site. And while staff members, both past and present, are the obvious recipients of gratitude, the larger community also plays a significant role, both in contributing efforts towards improvement and, more importantly, in providing the motivation for everyone to work together. No one person can ever take credit for the site - it is very much a whole community team effort. And we would be remiss to leave the Invision developers out. They are the ones working behind the scenes to develop the software that supports our community (and others). The site was created as a place to discuss the Space Marines of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, though it quickly expanded to include the Chaos Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, and the Inquisition. Later, it expanded to include the Imperial Guard, Chaos Daemons, and Adeptus Mechanicus. Then we expanded to include all of the factions within the Warhammer 40,000 setting, and then all of the games within the Warhammer 40,000 setting, which includes the Horus Heresy. At this point, it's fair to say that the site is now about the Warhammer 40,000 hobby, and it isn't likely that we'll expand beyond that in the foreseeable future. That said, we are considering ways to allow players more creativity in how they engage in the hobby and post content here while remaining within the [nebulous] boundaries of "Warhammer 40,000" as a hobby. We have long allowed non-GW models (as long as hobbyists make the effort to "WH40Kify" them). Additive manufacturing (3D printing), too, has had a significant impact on the hobby; and there are plenty of rules sets and models with which players might pursue the Warhammer 40,000 hobby. For example, Inq28/Inquisimunda and In the Emperor's Name are well-known fan-developed rules for the Warhammer 40,000 hobby and setting. In addition, there are WH40K-adjacent rules such as those from One Page Rules; and creative players can come up with many different rationales for using rules to represent some sort of conflict within the setting (e.g., Gaslands in place of Gorkamorka, Zona Alfa in place of the Necromunda Ash Wastes, etc.). You can even see where I recently posted a link to the Kickstarter for Space Gits, a WH40K-adjacent skirmish game featuring not-WH40K Orks/gits. We haven't quite worked the details out, but we want the site to support members' participation in the hobby, whether they use official GW products or not, all while maintaining focus on the Warhammer 40,000 setting. We're still working through some things before we give the green light on anything (beyond what our rules already allow).
