If it's always exclusive then it won't be a big name character because they won't want it to be gated behind the book release.

My guess is they've invented some new primaris special character lieutenant or captain and written a brief entry for him in the book, and his loadout is normal enough that he works as a proxy for a regular lieutenant or captain from the codex.

This seems the most likely to me, as while there is plenty of named characters they could do already, it would upset someone if they were forever tied to this release.

I googled and seen dozens of them, the extra seems to be always exclusive. ( they are also rarely the most expected "poster character" ) Honestly, Trazyn and Ezekiel I was more tongue in cheek about before arent even that unrealistic contenders. Or pedro kantor ? Though an alt pushfit for an already available character isnt unlikely either, or even a character that doesnt (and wont) have rules except for maybe legends. ( after all GW has been stingy with official rules even with something available from their own store : Blackstone fortress and the Gellerpox for Kill team.)

I wonder if this one would have popped up in the rumorverse.. Valrak was convinced of a Blood angels Terminator character wasnt he ? Could be a new Karlaen

In the end there arent that many possibilities, would be weird to just pull one out of their hat.

But I do think it being exclusive might be a strong possibility, as I think it might not be a thing GW has a say in when making the agreement.

I suppose Kantor is a possibility. I'm still very convinced he's getting a new model this edition seeing as he's in the codex but doesn't have a model available for sale currently.

Titus does feel like the correct answer, for all of the reasons previously stated: he's push-fit, a recognisable character to recent fans, and is a pre-existing mould with a little exclusivity. He's currently out of stock on the GW webstore (and going for a little above RRP on ebay), so there seems to be demand despite the slightly wonky miniature.

If this book sells well, hopefully we will see them making similar products for AOS, and maybe even HH, which would be neat.

Thats why I think an exclusive alt of something existing is the likely case (as has been often with the lego ones), I dont think they will make up a character for this, not in the least because "they" isnt games workshop.

DK isnt even a subsidiary and Im pretty sure GW isnt the one dictating requirements here. And if bigger ips like Lego, Starwars, Marvel and Harry Potter are held for a certain exclusivity, I dont think GW is in the position to wiggle out of it.

When I mentioned things like Ezekiel or Pedro Kantor its because I can see GW adjusting on their side of the spectrum, and the "alt" is released first... GW already has the resin currently and can keep it for a while and eventually in the future release another non DK exclusive plastic for it.

Similar but different with the Karlaen suggestion, its a named character applyable for a book like this, but for the game it would just be a terminator captain.
It might not be those names specifically, but they represent more the possibilities.

But I dont think they will or can resort to tricks like inventing a primaris lieutenant out of the blue or using an already previously sold miniature as exclusive, because its not just GW who "has to answer for that", its DK as well.

Lord, I hope not.  That be about the 5th Titus model I put on eBay.

I preordered the book.  I love books like that so the character really doesn’t matter to me anyway.

It's Titus after all, wow :laugh:I really think it's one of the worst miniatures they've done recently (well, until Coteaz at least...). The posing is just poorly done, it's like he's stumbling about drunk., there's just no sense of cohesion and proper momentum to any of what he's doing.

I suppose if they think it's better to just give them away for free now, it can't have sold too well.

Funny you say that, I was in a FLGS this afternoon and noticed they had about 10 Titus's filling a shelf  I do still want one for my UM character project, but suddenly I'm not in that mad a rush anymore!

I know this has been said before, but it bugs me every time - that’s not how excess stock works.

Besides - this Titus is cast in blue plastic (confirmed by the publisher) so these are oven fresh.

Not the most inspirational choice, hopefully in the future they will get to pick from something more unique, like the Hachette paperwork seems to get to - but a free Titus (or book) is ‘free’.

I have to mention it whenever the topic turns to army boxes/combat patrols etc, like the recent Grey Knights one. It's just easier for GW to print what they need instead of rummaging through their warehouse (and they may have to print anyway in case they didn't have enough...hence it's just easier to print)

I know that's not how excess stock works, I didn't say anything like that. They aren't going to be opening leftover boxes of the Titus Miniature to shove them into this.

I was more referring to what it says about the perception of the miniature from them, as if it was some great top selling thing that went extremely well with its sales then I'd be surprised if they'd then feel it was acceptable to be giving it away like this. It in effects feels like it's de-valuing it.

Giving various timetables, its probably unlikely they would have had sales figures yet. It's likely an attempt to get Space Marine 2 players (who aren't hobbyists) attention. For all we know, DK might have specifically asked for Titus because of his risen profile between the games and the secret level short film.

Wouldn't surprise me that they took another go at making a mini out of him when SM3 drops.

Although they did say that directly under a photo of very clearly grey plastic.  Agree with your point though that they'll have likely made a batch specifically for this purpose.

It is probably the most uninspiring choice for the included model though. Really trying to pull in all the SM2 players with every opportunity it seems. Shame the model is a dud.
