I think there is probably a way we can work this out.  Some questions:

1.  Are the unstarted models on the started bases?  If so, are they removeable?

2.  Do you have blank bases you could put the models on termperarily?

I think it's going to be difficult to remove them. But I'll check and get back to you. Although, upon further reflection, it might be better to just pick something else, rather than make you bend the rules and potentially open the floodgates to all sorts or exceptions - and I have plenty of projects I can pick instead

On the overhaul issue, that depends on what is involved.

- Being built isn't a problem, prebuilt models are perfectly acceptable (and indeed are the norm).

- Being painted can be problem.  If you are totally repainting (or painting over) the model, that's fine - that's the same as starting from a fresh model.  However, if you are taking an existing paint job and improving it (as it sounds like you are doing) that's outside the scope of Call to Arms - better to go vow it in the 12 Months of Hobby, which I think allows for partially completed models.

Basically, being a competition between forums, we try to keep it as fair as possible to everyone - which becomes very difficult if there are different baselines for model completeness for vowed models.

I have provided here a pic for you to judge:

All models painted not in black will be stripped. All models in black will be used as a foundation for the paintjob as black is the priming colour. Variant greys and washes will be applied on top of the black. All eye lenses will be painted in green OSL. Transfers and weathering will also be applied. All bases will be redone to illustrate an Martian environment. Here is also a pic for reference of how the models will look once they are completed:

I would need an actual close up on the black models to tell, but it looks like they have more than just black on them - in with case, they are too far progressed to enter.  If any of them are just black and nothing more, you can enter those - their finished bases don't matter, as you said you will be rebasing them.

For those you strip, they will be fine, but it makes sense for you to vow them (with new photos) after you have done so.

With an eye to what my vow will be, have I got this right?

To avoid introducing an element of "pretend this isn't painted" to the event, unless you can remove or cover up the bases it's probably better to vow something else.

Now that I've returned home and actually looked at the models, it turns out that most of the models with basing already done are either too far progressed to pledge anyway or easily removable from the bases, so it's not going to be an issue after all - sorry for wasting your time, but thanks for considering it anyway

In the meantime, I've come up with another question... Last year, my girlfriend participated through my account (I believe she was/is known as "Queen of the Blackened Moon") rather than make her own. Will this be acceptable this time around too?
If not we'll happily make an account for her of course, but she likely won't ever post here apart from the vow/completion posts, so that's the only reason we're asking.

No problem about the basing questions, it was a useful inquiry to have even if not one that turned out to be relevant in your case.

I'm happy with you participating jointly, or for her to set up her own "just for CtA" account.  Whatever works the best for the 2 of you.

The basing question has helped me decide not to include my malstrain alpha. I paint my Necromunda bases first then attach the WIP model so it was a useful clarification to me.

Amazing, thanks  She'll just tag along on my account again this year, in that case. We're both really looking forward to it and we'd like to thank you for stepping up and running the event again!
So far, it looks like we'll be doing some Tyranids and some Deathwatch, but who knows what'll happen over the next three months

I really need to sort out what I'm going to vow this year....

The answer is "yes"

Actual question time: I paint things across multiple strongholds, so I need to do 100 pts total in order to get the 100+ point award? Or specifically within a stronghold?

I.e. I paint 60 points in chaos, 40 in the others, can I still get Warmaster?
