Khulu
I decided I needed a place to keep all my Knights, so here we are. I originally bought my first Knight in 7th ed to use as an ally to my AdMech. My AdMech are long gone, so my Knights sat around unused for a long time. I eventually started using them as Chaos Knights with my CSM and TS... both of which are also long gone. Finally started working on Knights again to take a break from Drukhari and Necrons, and found a scheme I like that I can consistently do well, so I have been making decent progress on them. I finally played Knights as an army this year for the first time, though I am still getting the hang of them. I still need to decide on a house sigil of some kind and apply transfers (for the most part) and I keep finding bits I need to touch up or repaint but the following are basically done. As I finish more knights, I intend to update this post to keep them all together here. Cerastus Acheron name TBD. Piloted by Lady Leofrith Name TBD, Cerastus Castigator. Piloted by Lord Maerwin Name TBD, Dominus Castellan. Piloted by Lord Osmund The Warwolf, Questoris Preceptor (counts as Canis Rex). Piloted by Sir Colbrand, outcast. Formerly Master of Keys, Baron Colbrand led several Knights into conflict with the Ork Warboss 'Eadcrusha against the orders of the High Queen. He soon found himself in the middle of a war between the Orks and T'au expansionists, leading to the deaths of many pilots and several suits. As punishment, he has been stripped of all ranks and titles. The House is in desperate need of new pilots to replace those slain, so they can't afford to lose another by taking his Knight from him. Knight TBD, Questoris Knight. Piloted by Lord Cuthbert. Armigers, names TBD Edited May 28 by Khulu updated Dr_Ruminahui, kabaakaba, Focslain and 3 others 4 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385861-knights-of-house-ulysses/ Share on other sites
Focslain
Nice clean work there. As for the armigar names. It kind of depends on how you use them. Personally since they used to be in squads of 1-3 I did the greek alphabet, Alpha, beta, gamma, etc (I'm up to 7 squadrons in my main house) with 1-3. I have a few named, but they are either seasoned veteran (parts of my theme lances) or in my main house I have a character one that held the Bastard helm in 9th. Really it depends on how your house uses/treats Armigars. If they have a lot and use them like foot troops, squardoning them makes more sense. If they are 'rarer' in your house, then giving them each a name would make more sense. Khulu
Yeah, that's a good point. I probably should have at least pilot call signs for the armigers, if not names. My thinking is the heir (my Canis Rex counts as) let his pride get the better of him, and got embroiled in a foolish war that got enough pilots killed that it endangered the house (hence him being outcast). Now they're promoting distant relatives and marrying new people in just to keep the house afloat. Basically anyone they can find capable of piloting a Knight has a real chance of getting one. librisrouge
I name my armigers but change them up from the knight visually. House Pelletier's colors are: Blue - Loyalty Silver - Purity Gold - Generosity Armigers are forbidden from having gold. They're either watchmen (and thus, peasants) or squires (and thus, servants). What they have is given by the house, so they have nothing of their own to be generous with until they ascend to full knighthood. Perhaps some visual marker could work for your house to justify the naming of the smaller machines. Khulu
I have finished another Knight, just need to take pics and I will add it to the original post. I wasn't completely sold on my naming scheme so I'm starting over. I'll see what I can come up with. Leaning towards Anglo-Saxon names for the pilots since they sound easily heroic and militaristic. It does look from the codex like naming Armigers is the norm (in universe anyway) so I think I am going that route once I have a better idea of how I want to name them. Khulu
How is everyone designing heraldry for their houses? Or is anyone bothering to? I'm not much of an artist so I've been trying to tweak a lesser house crest but the results so far have been mediocre. Is there an easier way to do this? Focslain
So my house has a large amount of anime references in it. When designing the house emblem I took the symbol of the PMC of my main influence for the colour scheme and took a twist on the description of the house my knight were forged at originally, House Taranis. Description in Mechanicus: A lighting bolt atop a cog wheel The emblem of the Xaos group in Macross Delta (my knight scheme is lifted from the colours and design of a mecha one of their pilots flies, not to mentioned named after her) Which got me this for my house emblem, if simplistic as compared to other houses. But my house isn't a conventional house either. That's how i did mine, but the general gest is to make an emblem, simple at first, then jazz it up depending on how you want your house to be over time. So don't be too down if your emblem isn't really detailed at the start.
