Token
So, seems like the imps no longer have heavy weapons in their larger squads, so the only way to get heavy weapons is to get the whole teams, but these seems very much like glascannons, how do you keep them from being taken out easily? DemonGSides
You let em die. Other option is to use the Lascannon variant as a sniper. Heavy+Take Aim is a 3+ S12 murder machine. Can even overwatch on a 4+ if you've got some nearby chaff. kabaakaba
they just must shoot enough before die, like any guard unit i think. atleast with reserves strat limited to once per battle Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385896-protecting-heavy-weapons-teams/#findComment-6109741 Share on other sites
AutumnEffect
The mortar team can be put out of LoS and is pretty efficient into chaff targets. The Krieg heavy flamer doesn't care if it moves so you can mount a squad in a chimera and get 3 heavy flamers using the top hatch plus the Chimera's or dump the squad and get 5. Then get some more flamer shots when they die. Mirroring the comment on a lascannon team, a Catachan variant isn't bad for the cost with re-roll 1s vs Vehicles and Monsters. Besides these niches though, your overall hope is to just provide saturation with them and hope that whatever your opponent is using to kill them isn't being pointed at something more important, like the infantry squad you have on an objective. Inquisitor_Lensoven
I’ve never had much issue with them dying. i normally run lascannon, autocannon and mortar squads. most of the time my opponent is too focused on my vehicles and battleline infantry to worry about them. they only typically die when charged when my opponent gets people into my backfield. Emperor Ming
I would never consider heavy weapons teams atm, there just too expensive and so so squishy Mortar teams and the heavy flamers have some legs But this is where the new points system fails guard really badly, you are paying for the mortars, Everything else should be miles cheaper Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385896-protecting-heavy-weapons-teams/#findComment-6110039 Share on other sites
The Pounder
Definitely over costed. At least with the Krieg ones there’s a chance to shoot back! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385896-protecting-heavy-weapons-teams/#findComment-6110121 Share on other sites

Rerolling 1s against large targets can be used every time they shoot. Bonuses to overwatch only kick in if you are willing to burn a CP on the stratagem.
