Greetings Hive Tyrants, Neurotyrants, Norn Emissaries, and particularly feisty Gaunts!

Call to Arms is back this year, but @Dr_Ruminahui will be running it for @Grotsmasha.  For those new to B&C or simply unaware, Call to Arms is a Forum wide event that this year runs from June 15th until September 15th!

The forum is split up into 5 Strongholds: Imperium, Loyal Astartes (which is new this year), Chaos, Xenos and Heresy with all 5 factions competing against one another to paint the most in the 3 months time limit. There will be a Central hub thread for each of the Strongholds in the Work in Progress section of the Forge forum which will be linked once it's live. We can use thread to cross post in and track/give motivation to those participating.  For those of you familiar with previous Call to Arms events, the rules are exactly the same this year except for loyal Astartes being their own stronghold.

Check out the full rules here

If you've got any questions, give @Dr_Ruminahui or one of the Mods a shout!

STRONGHOLDS OPEN JUNE 15, 2025

For the Full Rules and where to place your vows for the Tyranid go to the  The Xenos Stronghold

Start Date: 15th June

End Date: 15th September

Here is a more detailed list of points per model specifically for the Tyranid

The below list should cover every model for the Tyranid (if I'm missed any, please let me, @Dr_Ruminahui, know and I'll figure out their point values and add them);

2pts   Ripper Swarms, Warriors, Lictor, Venom/Zoan/Neurothropes, Ravenors

3pts   Hive/Tyrant Guard

5pts   Tervigon, Exo/Toxicrene, Maleceptor, Haruspex, Tyrannofex, Tyrannocyte, Carnifex, Screamer Killer, Psychophage, Norns

10pts Zone Morialtis Gang Stronghold

Note: Custom/Scratchbuilt terrain- use this list as a guide as to how many points tour terrain is worth, but please make sure to mention your terrain is custom when Vowing.

All points are per model. For example if you pledge 20 Termagaunts(1ptx20), 3 Ravenors(2ptsx3), a Tervigon (5pts), and a Winged Hive Tyrant (10pts), your vow would be worth 41pts

Please feel free use this thread as a place to share your thoughts, ideas, and WIPs prior to the Event to motivate and inspire the Tyranid Empire and Xenos to Victory!!!  After June 15th, please do the same in the Xenos Stronghold!

@Dr_Ruminahui How about Mawlocs/Trygons and the Norn Assimilator/Emissary (I don't actually have the latter, but I gues someone else might).

Also, do I understand the rules correctly that a Hive Tyrant is eligible for the Job's a Big'un? If it's 10+ points, I guess it is, I'm just a bit confused because a Hive Tyrant isn't actually all that big. But I'm probably just overthinking things...

All 4 of those are 5, being non-characters and about Tyrannofex size, who is also 5.  I know there is a lot of range of scale in the 5 point bracket for Tyranids, but none of them seem quite big enough to be put at 6 points.  Again, I'm happy to reconsider, but photos next to other 6 point things would be appreciated if you want me to do that.

Hive Tyrant being 10 is a bit a legacy issue, I guess, being the model that was the closest to Primarch equivalent in Tyranids at the time.  Is there a larger nid character now?  I'm happy putting whatever is bigger in that slot instead, and maybe keeping the winged tyrant there if I can compare the models beside each other.

And yes, any 10+ point model can be a "Job's a Big'un" vow.

Thanks! I think we'll be vowing a winged tyrant for the "Job's a Big'un" then - I'm fiddling with cleaning and assembling it as we speak

Sadly, I don't have any possibility to do a size comparison for the Norn Emissary/Assimilator, as I don't have one (yet...). But if no-one is actually vowing one, it might be one of those things that doesn't matter all that much until it actually comes up. All I really know about it is that it's new, looks huge and is supposedly a bit smaller than it looks in the photos

Funnily enough, I have just finished a Winged Tyrant and have a Norn Emissary!

I’ll get a comparison pic later if you still want to see?

That would be helpful.  Do you happen to have a rhino and/or a landraider (or if not, a tyranofex and/or a carnifex) you can throw in the photo with them?  Thanks.

Though, am I correct in thinking the Norns aren't characters?

Sadly I don’t currently own any Marine vehicles at the moment.

I did however manage a side by side pic of the Flyrant and Norn Emissary!

Also, I can confirm the Norn Emissary is NOT a character it is a Monster, though it does have Synapse.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that, @The Pounder - it was very helpful.

The only reason the flyrant is 10 is because it is a character AND is a centerpiece/big.  The Norn, being monster, is 5 points unless it is sufficiently large enough to make it into the 6 point category - which it doesn't (in other words, it doesn't get the "bump up" for being a character model).  Despite it being quite a bit larger than the other tyranid models, I feel its still closer to rhino than landraider in scale.

I honestly was expecting the emissary/assimilator to be bigger than that

So a winged Tyrant is 10pts then? Good thing I looked in here before making the vow tomorrow! I'd previously worked it out as 39pts total (20x Hormagaunts, 5x Barbagaunts, 9x Leapers, 1x Tyrant), so it looks like its now 44pts? Have I got that right?

* ALL STRONGHOLDS ARE NOW OPEN, YOU CAN NOW MAKE YOUR VOWS *

Happy painting!  Be sure to cheer on your fellow stronghold participants!

As a reminder, all vows must be completed by September 15th.

I will no longer be monitoring these threads in the faction forums - if you have any questions, please ask me in the Strongholds or @Dr_Ruminahui

Same here - in fact, even though I'd already been told that it was smaller than it looked in the Codex, I was still surprised!

@Dr_Ruminahui I just noticed that Old One Eye isn't mentioned. He's a character/epic hero as well as a Carnifex. I'm going to vow him, but I'm guessing he's still 5 pts. like a regular Carnifex?
Realistically speaking it's just another head variant, so I don't think he's really all that different from a "normal" Carnifex, when it comes to how big a job it is to paint him.

Sure, that works.  I was thinking of regular pricing for the Tervigon as well, which I think is technically a character this edition, but really isn't any more ornate or complex than the tyranofex.
