Call to Arms is back this year, but @Dr_Ruminahui will be running it for @Grotsmasha.  For those new to B&C or simply unaware, Call to Arms is a Forum wide event that this year runs from June 15th until September 15th!

The Forum is split up into five Strongholds; Imperium, loyal Astartes (which is new this year), Chaos, Xenos, and Heresy, with all five factions competing against one another to paint the most in the three months time limit. There will be a Central hub thread for each of the Strongholds in the Work in Progress section of the Forge forum which will be linked once it's live. We can use this thread to cross post in and track/give motivation to those participating.  For those of you familiar with previous Call to Arms events, the rules are exactly the same this year except for loyal Astartes being their own stronghold.

Check out the full rules here

If you've got any questions, give @Dr_Ruminahui or one of the Moderation Team a shout!

All points are per model. For example if you pledge 20 Intercessors (1ptx20), 3 Outriders (2ptsx3), a Redmptor (3pts), and a Gravis Captain (5pts), your vow would be worth 34pts

If you have any questions or queries, or there's a model you want to paint but isn't listed, just @Dr_Ruminahui and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

Please feel free use this thread as a place to share your thoughts, ideas, and WIPs prior to the Event to motivate and inspire the Blood Angels and the Astartes to Victory!!!  After June 15th, please do the same in the Astartes Stronghold!

Rules and Place your Vow =>  The Astartes Stronghold

Because Mephiston is much closer to primarch sized, while Sanguinor is basically normal hero sized with some streamers holding him in the air.  Basically, previously only primarchs (and abaddon) were 10, but I've noticed that many armies now have a centerpiece model that are more detailed and on a larger base.  In future CtAs, there may be an "intermediate" hero category between the 5 and 10 point marks, but I didn't turn my mind to it early enough this year to do that.

I read through the rules, but wanted to check: am i right in thinking you make a pledge, once finished you can make a second one to a max of four?

 Up to three vow sequentially.

The fourth vow (Jobs' a Big'Un) is for 10pt+ models that falls outside the three, and has the entire 3 month period to be completed.

For example vow 1 you pledge a Chaplain (5pts) and Sanguinius (10pts). Once you complete the Chaplain, you may make your second vow BEFORE completing Sanguinius. You may even add another 10pt+ model that would fall into the Jobs' a Big'Un category.

Yeah, you don't need to work everything out beforehand. While many people like to make a big initial vow (as that can be motivating for them), another tack is to vow what you think you can reasonably paint in a given period time (say the first month), see how long that takes to complete, then make your second vow with what you could paint and in how long in determining what your second vow should be.

I don't have much of a horse in the race since I'm not painting BA for this go round, but I don't get how Mephiston is 5 more points than the Sanguinor.

These are both box built and I would think they'd be the same.

Minicompare deceived me - those are much closer to the same size than I thought, so I need to figure out whether Sanguinor is bigger than I thought or Mephison smaller.   So you are right, they should be the same points, whether that be 5 or 10.  Do you have a primarch or Abaddon you could throw in that picture with them?  Or, if not, some random space marine captain or character?

Those 40mm bases?

Yep both are on 40's.  My Primarch is dead so I don't have any of the "mortal" primarchs to put next to him on hand, but here's the two of them with a new style Terminator, the Terminator Captain from Leviathan (Which is a 50mm I believe) and then the Dark Vengeance Hellbrute which I think is similar or slightly bigger to the primarchs.

I find Mini compare to not be very reliable unfortunately. Some scaling problems.

Also sorry about the Hellbrute dust LOL.  As you can tell, he got built and then promptly shoved into the back of a shelf.

Even their Sanguinor is a little large compared to what he is in actuality.  I wish they'd take real reference photos instead of relying on GW glamor shots that are often of 3D printed versions of the models, which REALLY throws out of whack the scaling.

Thanks a lot for that.  Minicompare's Mephiston is definitely too large - they have him just slightly smaller than Abbadon.  He should definitely only be 5 points.

That said, Sanguinor might be 10, because of his wings  (this is based on DemonGSidesCompare ).  Let me think on that and I'll let you know and update the point totals.

Glad to be of help! I would definitely agree that the Sanguinor feels our closest to 'center-piece' model, though Dante is also of a similar size.  My version of him is in another room so I don't have immediate photo access, but from memory they're similar though Sanguinor's wings do add quite a bit of width to him compared to anything else in the BA realm.

When you have a moment, would you mind throwing up a DemonGSidesCompare of Dante as well?

Thanks.

Included Astorath tho I did modify mine so the axe positioning is "wrong" from GWs.   Shouldn't massive change the silhouette tho.

Dante appears to be on a 50, though he takes up a lot less room than the Sanguinor does.

I wish I could claim the paint job as my own, but I found it online and took a gamble.  It is truly a great job.  One of these days I will actually field him!

After some thought, although I have concerns that even Sanguinus isn't quite large enough to really qualify, to make Sanguinus a 10 point model and the others will remain at 5.  I've updated the point list.
