Generic Characters leading SW units

Was the rumor speculation or are people hearing things? I do think this is an 11th edition codex in 10th. Thought that about the world eater codex too. Not sure if it started with WE. Would make sense if the four chaos legion codexes were designed with 11th in mind. I do think there’s a chance Marine Codex 2.0 boosts speed for marines across the board. That would make it easy to get generic characters back. Or errata could fix this issue which I think is less likely due to WGBL being captain stats.

The more I think about it, the more I see this as being intentional 100%.

Our new codex has GH/BC becoming Primaris and retaining chapter specific traits. The Primaris Marines created from SW stock are for all intents and purposes Guilliman codex adherent (some SW traits, but codex adherent tactically).

As far as gameplay, it leaves us with the ability to have two different tactical elements on the board of the same army, but does cut a distinct line in the ice of their abilities.

My Primaris GH will have a host of things they can do and my SW Intercessors will have a host of things they can do, each in their own role.

I was paging through the Crusader squad on games-workshop and noticed none of the other chapter specific infantry units get restricted units this way!

Yes, we are the first. It sucks to be the first to be subject to new balancing approaches, that's true.

I wonder if this is an indication that Devastators are being phased out of the forthcoming Marine 2.0 codex. They have been mostly superseded by Hellblasters, Eradicators and Desolators. They are one of the few remaining Firstborn units. Perhaps Long Fangs are being phased because there is no longer going to be a squad for them to be based on.

GW also only operates on whether the models are here, right now. So i don't really view it as indicative of anything. See the Chaos Lord with Jump Pack being removed in the 9E cut when CSM went through that process, only to be released again in 10E. So they could even make a new Long Fangs kit next edition, but it's not here right now, so it doesn't exist.

Although it kinda sucks to be the first, I think its a good direction to go in for the divergent chapters, and as such our release from what ive seen of the rules feels at least more unique than what BA and DA got.

I dont mind the lack of being able to add the SW specific characters to the vanilla units. It helps with balancing and unforseen combos cropping up with enhancemnets and strats.

I think Id have actually liked to see them go further in our restrictions, but redo more old units.

ie The loss of long fangs and wolf scouts makes me very sad, as does the loss of my morkai (although I seemed to be the only person to ever play them lol)

Would happily lose access to eradicators/aggressors etc if we got those actual wolf units back in some form in the future.

Also having no generic wolf lord, rune priest, or terminator leader feels very odd right now, but maybe we'll get an FAQ that at least unlocks some of those by allowing a handful of the vanilla characters to  lead  grey hunters or wolf guard terminators etc.
