We have no idea what or how to make dow anymore, so best we can do is remasters....

:laugh::ermm::facepalm:

They have everything they need but the funding... Many of the same people who made Dark Crusade and DoW2 are still working there.

Someone else I think is making in DoW4, GW took the IP elsewhere (like they did with Space Marine) when Sega was disinterested in continuing the franchise (they were going to bet on Creative Assembly's 40k game instead, which I'm sure we've all heard the Valrak rumours of). But then Relic went interdependent, opening this opportunity.

Which is why I think this is great way for Relic to back to Dawn of War again. It's a SKU that can finance the studio and they can use to launch as a platform to make more Dawn of War 1 expansions. Come on Relic, make Dawn of War I-Two. And then you can make Dawn of War II-Two. They're very different styles of game, develop them both and give them new life independently.

Slightly improved graphics in order to sell a 20 year old game at 2025 prices.

Honestly even the non-discounted price- $30 for everything- is a steal by today's standards, and the graphics are frankly the least interesting upgrade they've done (and the one that will have taken the least work). Getting the game(s) to work nicely on modern machines, removing bugs AND making it more mod-friendly would have been a lot of effort on their part, and assuming it all works as intended would be a MASSIVE upgrade over the original, which frankly does not run well on a lot of current PCs at all. It seems less like the Oblivion Remake and more like one of Nightdive's excellent remasters, faithful to the original with most of the improvements being behind-the-scenes stuff like compatibility and mod support.

I own an the way up to Soulstorm for DOW 1.

I'll be buying it tomorrow, full price, with joy.

The work they've done has earned every dollar.

I poured a lot of love and hard work into that game through the mod community. To be able to play "Dawn of Steel" and "Inquisition Daemonhunt", in wide screen, after all these years is literally a dream come true.

Is this jsut a money grab or actually worth it?

We'll see once reviews kick in, but just on the basis that they've worked with the unification mod team to ensure complete compatibility means that there's at least a lot of goodwill.

A money grab to me would be just releasing it for wide format screens and modern chips.

+ They've gone into the base code to fix community related issues, improving quality of life play mechanics.

- The graphical improvements will be a wash for new players, they never played they old diffuse only textures.

+ Having it all in one game is going to be nice, not like 5 DVD's.

If you've not played it before, and you like 40k, it's definitely worth it.

I'm biased as I worked on half a dozen mods.

They've done a lot of work for CoH since the dismal launch of 3 and the sentiment in that community has been changing

Rather than dump it with no future content like they did Dawn of War 3 (now that they've left Sega), they've been putting out content, patches and a pretty big update (1.7) for the first year anniversary which changed the sound, time to kill, video improvements, etc

I still prefer 2, but the community has warmed a bit to them post-Sega since they are actually trying it seems

So I've spent a few hours in skirmish playing different factions

This is exactly what they said it was. UI is a bit better, animations/models are a bit smoother (although bare heads are still comically bad), lighting is a bit better but overall it's the exact same game that we've had for 20 years.

For me that's a good thing, and for $18 after the discount for previous owners I think it's worth it, but if you were hoping for sneaky changes here or there, you aren't going to get them. It's just been brought up slightly like they've said in the blog videos
