Helias_Tancred
I've been looking for a one step black combo of spray and a black from the paint post that are a complete match or close enough that you don't have to repaint the sprayed model with the black you're using from the pot! I've tried multiple combos from paint companies that cater to the hobby, GW, Vallejo, Army Painter, etc ... I finally found one that works for me! In an unlikely place, after having picked up several cans from Lowe's hardware to spray some back porch black wrought-iron chairs and table! So here it is .... Rustoleum "Americana Accents" flat black primer found in hardware stores, and then Vallejo black from the Model Color line! In the examples below I sprayed the Black Legion guy with the Rustoleum, and then painted his left shoulder pad with Vallejo Model Color Black! Near perfect match! I'm stoked! And the money saved versus buying a spray from a hobby paint company versus just going to the hardware store and getting that specific black for like $6.99 a can! lol. I think the Hobby companies rip us off on price for their sprays, at least in this situation. This will be my black armor traditional solution going forward. That spray and Vallejo Model Color Black out of the bottle. Helias_Tancred
My two cans were 2 years old, and I now on their website I see Rust-Oleum makes a Flat Black Primer, and a Matte Black Primer. I'd get the Flat Black one, but at $6.48 a can I'd get both and see which one I like the best? Volgon
I can't speak to the Matte Black Primer but I also have been using their Flat Black Primer + VMC Black for touch ups as my black recipe since the start of my Lichborne CSM army. The color and finish on the Flat Black Primer is excellent, essentially ultra matte. You can check out my threads if you'd like to see how it looks going a bit further (primarily metallic chipping and highlights, though lately I've been experimenting with oranges and browns for rusting, and volumetric highlights with other blacks or extremely dark greys). Helias_Tancred
At $6.48 a can I want to try their matte black primer too. It's on my hobby list of things to do.
