I know he's called them Combat Patrols, but there is far too much in the IF one for it to be one - if it's a limited army box then could definitely have the new character in

That's not true. The total value of the IF one is 190.625€. There're other combat patrols of higher value than that, like the Astra Militarum (192.5€) or the Aeldari (197.5€) ones.

And if you're talking about points, it's a 545pts box.

EDIT: I've just realized that these combat patrols will probably include the primaris upgrade sprues, so the value would be higher than what I said.

Out of curiosity, how do the army boxes far points wise these days? Given the price difference are they more in the 750-1000 point range (army depending)

It varies and depends very much on the army. For example the new Space Wolves box is:

180 Grey Hunters

135 Blood Claws

60 Wolf Priest

65 Wolf Guard Battle Leader

90 Head Takers

20 Hunting Wolves

550 points Total

680 ish for the EC box depending on how the tormentors/ infractors are built.

Could those Boxes, combined with how the Space Wolves treat the "Space Wolves" and "Adeptus Astartes" keywords, mean, that in a potential 2.0 Codex for Marines, there will be a way to give a Chapter-keyword to generic units? Maybe with more Chapter-specific rules interactions or dedicated detachments.

That's my expectation. Would clear up a lot of the weirdness with the codex supplements and also give more options for a fully flavored force.

It is possible but it would seem unlikely. Some of the Space Wolf stratagems are clearly marked as SW models and others are any Astartes models. I can't think of a reason to have that distinction if GW were planning to implement a way to give generic units the Chapter keyword.

I just want a Terminator Ancient and a Terminator Assault Squad, is that too much to ask?

As long as it's two individual kits not tied to a specific chapter aesthetic and both follow the same assembly paradigms of regular terminators so I can make use of all those third party bits  without any additional work.

Do brick and mortar Warhammer stores have enough shelf space for 9 Space Marine Combat Patrols? I know mine doesn't. I suppose they could be web exclusives. I have to say though to make them Combat Patrol is yet more evidence in my mind that 11th edition next summer will be 10.5 rules wise.

They could be FOMO like the Boarding Patrols were?

Although the lack of a special character in the IF box would go against this my expectation would have been a run of limited army boxes (or in this case combat patrols) with a special character specific to that chapter, older models and hopefully one of these new units in. I can’t see the combat patrols as described becoming range items, maybe a splash release like the boarding patrols?

I took it to mean the new white scar model is a generic character, so more sensible for a combat patrol

Ahh I understand.

Yeah we definitely need a proper Outrider captain model. It's amazing that it has taken this long.

I'd argue we need a multipart Outrider kit and then the Primaris range is pretty much complete, with the exception of Assault Terminators.

And Vanguard Vets. Also I’m willing to bet that we’ll see some completely new concepts added to the range that we haven’t seen before, plus maybe some other stuff which may make sense as well like s JP Chaplain or Outrider Librarian. I’d also wager we will see more chapter specific stuff like Samael and Black Knights for the DA, SW and BA when their 11th Codecei drop. I still think GW have plenty more they can do with the Primaris range.

I’m hoping the white scars character is their chapter master , I think he’s called Jubal Khan? But if he’s in a jet bike and is all fancy like Logan grimnar is that would be epic.

i think if I did start white scars I’d buy heresy jet bikes over outriders

There are a few other niches GW might choose to fill. For example, we don't have Grav or Lascannon based heavy weapon squads yet. Of the heavy weapon options that used to be available to Devastators, 3 have now appeared as Primaris squads (Hellblasters, Eradicators and Desolators). People rarely took Heavy Bolter squads outside niche builds but Heavy Intercessors are pretty close.

No doubt. I also think they should be focusing more on individual chapters going forward. Still a lot left to cover in that respect.

I think bare minimum for the other chapters should be:

-Supplement, could make some pre existing units special like “hounds of morkai”

-New character

-New special unit

-Larger upgrade sprue that spans units special to them

Imagine how much more chapter variety we'll see if every codex chapter had at least two special characters and a unique unit.

And yes, more comprehensive upgrade sprues are a must.

Imagine how unbelievably bloated the SM range would become.

Well especially because I love white scars having a supplement that lets the specialise the bikes and speeders more , make a generic captain on bike but for white scars it’s a khan on bike with special rules , make a terminator datasheet but as the ebon keshig, they have so much oooo but don’t seize it

Yeah it’s true but at that point they’d have to supplement the chapters to stop the bloat

My suggesting would still mean less new models across an entire codex than just what the Space Wolves got in the refresh.

But I do believe that we need to consolidate all the books. I've said this before - have one tome to serve as the rules for all the generic units, and a second book that includes all the specific chapter rules and unique units for ALL the chapters - codex standard and divergent.
