Possibly? I'm not too sure on that as it would go against how shields are normally done at the moment. Those nodes do match power weapons though.

With the Horus Heresy hints pictures, I thinks it may be for the skitarii (the ones that follow the titans and the knights)

This seems to be the inside, and the outside seems to be silver.

Shape matches with Crusaders as well, and I do think their shields are weapons as well ( explaining the powerlines.)

 

anyone has the inside of a crusader shield to compare ?

 

edit : when looking it seems most imperial shields have those lines ?

Oooo, Secutarii Hoplites - I'd not considered that and was instead being very Space Marine-centric and was thinking Lysander or Assault Terminators.

Not that it means anything, but the back of the Axiarch shield is different just as another consideration

Crusader shield seems quite different from other imperial shields, but also different from this one.

Thank you ( even if my eyes hurt now XD ) yeah I assume crusaders would re-use cad files of Montfred (?) it would be too divergent.

 

When I said silver though, I should have said a metallic painting on the outside ( or at least the corner we can see ) maybe its gold and this is just in time to be the first rumor engine for Sisters of Silence ( either the HH rumors of the talons expanding, or the theorising that the KT Dead silence might feature Sisters of Silence. ) though I think the blocky shapes in the RE are too crude for SoS, and the other people saying Mechanicus for HH might be closer.

 

Something is very unspacemarine about it though, but I cant put my finger on why it feels like that. Maybe the rougher strokes making this look like a relatively small shield ?

I have the same feeling. Maybe because it seem a bit too much "pointy" and not wide enough for a space marine but it could be just the angle of the picture

Interesting. I'm not sure what this is. A shield obviously. A storm shield even. But for who, a marine? 

 

Not quite sure, the proportions look a bit off? It's very thick, very curved, and the power nodes and cabling look quite substantial, suggesting that the shield by contrast is quite small. At least compared to what I'm used to working with:

 

Terminator ones are even larger, casting further doubt

I suppose it could just be the very bottom tip of a very long, but not so wide shield, but that again feels kind of atypical for marine style shields.

Human sized for sure. Doesn't look like it's meant to be very large. The size and shape of the kite shields in Dark Souls.

Please forgive the photo. It seems a bit blurry and shows I didn't bother to detail the rear of the shields that much. It looks like more drybrushing and/or washes might have helped.

 

Unless GW are breaking away from the Skitarii kit entirely and redesigning the Secutarii to be completely different with a ground-up redesign I am not confident that's what we are looking at.

 

Votann unit, maybe? It looks quasi-imperial, so perhaps they will get a super tanky unit?

Either that, or Adeptus Mechanicus get an entirely new heavy Skitarii unit that side-lines Hoplites entirely in 40k?

Maybe a smaller Imperial Knight (Since the big knight shields are just forcefield generators)?

Perhaps Kaldor Draigo will get a new model? His shield tapers at the bottom like a kite shield. 

I'm guessing wildly now, but just a few ideas.

Votann dont use those powerlines anywhere I think, besides, we have 2 examples of a votann shield (though both on 2 sculpts of the same unit; Einhyr champion), and its a very different design direction.

 

I went and looked if Sisters of Silence in HH (although the shield has too crude elements for them) or Ordo Malleus Inquisitional Stormtroopers (my current theory on what the Grey knights kill team be really, as chances are high it wont be actual grey knights) in the past had access to any shields, but neither of them do.

 

I thought chaos doesnt have those powernodes on their designs, but I was wrong.. at least Emperors children feature them. I could see a KT cultist team for them have (double) kiteshaped buckler shields and a lack of visible corruption on the tech/armory. That would be a solid explanation of all elements.

Ahh I see it now, when quickly scanning all the detail pictures of various miniatures the lack of painting them glowing like imperial stuff and the RE engine does threw me off.

 

edit : Still stands though, that the shield design is extremely far removed from the Einhyr champion's shield, one would expect if they have more shield elements it falls more in line with that.

 

However, even this being a shield is ofcourse a leap of an assumption. There are other options it could be

 

edit 2 : When I first saw it, it reminded me of a tie fighter for example ( though I guess those things on the side are technically shields as well ? Im actually not too much into starwars to know )
