It won't change much.

By adding up the point reductions, we should be able to add a unit to the army lists.

Unfortunately, when we see the power of the new codexes (Eldar, Thousand Son, Death Guard, IK, etc.), what's the point?

GW has taken a lethal step forward with the new releases, and the entire Space Marine codex is no longer up to scratch.

The re-wording of Black Rage means any Character leading the DC without the Black Rage keyword will no longer be granted a re-roll. Probably how it's supposed to work but :ermm:

Huh it is a bit of a sneaky rewording.  Chaplains losing out on the reroll is probably ultimately not a huge deal but does feel wrong?

Well the rumour was accurate,

It's doing the rounds on the internet, so take with salt.

The  Golden Host is back, Sanguinary Guard  down 20 points. I'm happy with the Death Company rewrite but whether they get competitive table time in the face of the other changes remains to be seen.  Death Company are viable.  Need to dig into the codex and see how the DC detachment works, that's a good thing I'll enjoy playing them again.  Our detachment specifically Liberator Assault Group can add significant value to generic space marine units and make the unit far more competitive. Always good in our codex are Jump Assault Intercessor, Vanguard Vet, Sternguard and  now the change in Aggressor points looks interesting.  But nothing in this drop is as spicy as those 110 point SG units with a cheaper Dante and cheaper Captains.   My generic SG squad  and leader is now 30 pts less SG down 20 points per 3 and the captain leading them down 10 points.  Im going to run at least 3 units in pretty much every LAG list now.

Update Cpt points drop clarification

With VanVets down to 95 points, I am considering a couple of 5-man squads. For 5 points more than JAIs they lose MWs on the charge but gain +1S and either a 4++ or an Inferno Pistol so I now feel like they are a valid contender in the MSU area.

Their base ability of built in lethals on the charge plus grenades and  varied pistol selection certainly makes them a flexible unit able to blend any chaff scoring unit or finish off a vehicle. Even deep striking them down with all grav seems viable after points reduction.  I wonder how they would go in Angelic Inheritors with a cheap JP Captain added ?  Free up and down Strat to send them anywhere.

Added Captain comment

Thanks, I completely forgot Lethal Hits. With 25 attacks on the charge (in LAG), they have the chance to punch up into harder targets without Red Rampage (although AP-1 does put a bit of a ceiling on this).

I imagine almost everyone is able to fit in another unit following this update. What did you go for on your regular lists?

I'm still waiting for New Recruit to fully update as I use Legends frequently  however, on a non-Legends list that I'm considering, I'll probably add another Scout Squad as it stands.

75 points to spare, very annoying number lol. Not all that many options at that amount.

Hmm, DC Jump Captain, Priest, Scouts, Combi-weapon Lt. There's a fair number of options but it depends what else you have in your list.

I already have scouts and a priest in the list, the DC are led by Lemartes. Combi Weapon Lt might be solid though.

That’s 4 units you listed, I think also the ATV, and various ancients might fit, but the real limitation is do the units available make sense?

if youre not playing a DC heavy list DC Captain doesn’t make much sense. Priest doesn’t make much sense if you don’t have a unit available that he can lead. Combi-LT can just kinda be added to any list I guess, scouts are at least pretty easy to integrate into just about any list. Ancients without their corresponding units don’t make much sense either.

Agrre with Lensoven.  Priest still doesn't make any reasonable contribution, even with the points drop.    Our strength in LAG is still SG, BGV, Scouts, JAI, Outriders.  Priest can't  join them.  In Angelic Inheritors  the main leaders are Cpts's,  Lt,  Chaplain, again no room  for a priest.  Our  Priest  needs a jump pack and a better range of units to join.   I value a tech marine well above a Priest i'm using the extra points to add a tech marine to buff shooting or jam him in with assault intercessors.   And thats a shame we are the Blood Angels our chapter lore involves priest and chaplains.

How about leading a 10-man squad of AIs with a Captain? 50 attacks on the charge for the boosted AP. 20 wounds to benefit from the 5+++. Free stratagems from the Cap and the whole bundle comes in at around 300 points before Enhancements.

so the silly list I've been using with friends is:

- Dante + 6 SG

- Captain + Company Heroes in impulsor

- Lieutenant + 10 Intercessors

- Sanguinary Priest + 10 Assault Intercessors
- Lemartes + 10 Jump Death Company

- 10 Intercessors

- 10 hellblasters

- 10 scouts

Why these models? Primarily because the make up some of the most painted stuff in my collection

Conveniently, my Lieutenant with combi weapon is also among that list.

That's a nice combination, agree and yes you could probably do the same combo with Stern Guard.  Apart from that  all you've got he can  join is Intercessors and the rest are all shooty.  Let's see what people do. Now if he could join Blade Guard Vets, but I guess they are off limits for balance.

Given that Wolves can put their Priests with Headtakers (basically reskinned BGVs), I don't see a problem. Reviving 1 model per turn and +1 to Wound is probably stronger than a 5+++ and AP-1.

Several armies have ways to resurrect BGV-equiv models now. I think Apothecaries and Sanguinary Priests suffered from early edition caution about making the revival mechanic too strong.
