So we know a little about how the new force organistion is and I made a list that I want to run by people.

PRIMARY DETACHMENT

Centurion Prime Slot (Paragon of Combat)

4 Rhinos

Multi Melta

2x Armoured Fist

8 Rhinos

Multi Melta

Allied Detachment

2x Armoured Fist

1 Rhino

Multi Multi

7 Rhinos

Heavy Flamer

with current point values this is 2985 points and it will be 5 different legions of whatever benefits the rhinos. Could drop some multi meltas to get either heavy bolters or more heavy flamers and get equipment for the centurions.

could be a shattered legion that lost all it's dudes in the dropsite massacre but the rhinos survived to crowbar in some lore.

seems a good example of a spam list that could be easily achieved in 3.0 from what we know. oh and a dawn of war deployment with little space between the rhinos could get around 50 in the deployment zone assuming no large terrain pieces they  can't deploy in.

In 1st ed 30k/HH/AoD, my Ultramarine friend once ran the All-Predators Rite of War (with the 1 HQ guy to do so, he stood in the back).

It was an allied game, him against 2 of us, and although we lacked Transports we ran up to his Preds with Melta Bombs or Power Fists.

It was a close battle (we won, beat the All-Preds list, and took so many casualties it didn't really matter), but with THIS many Rhinos...you might be onto something here.  They may get in each other's way, but by that token, they'll definitely get in the enemy's way.

I'm taking your idea seriously.  Don't make it surviving Rhinos from Istvaan, because they'd be seen as cowards for leaving without their squads.

Instead, the Legions are constantly re-supplied with equipment, munitions, including Transports.  What your Rhinos represent are just a regular shipment that was already en route to the Legions when the Dropsite Massacre happened.  It's actually a really good lore idea, to show utterly decimated the Legions were.

Imagine the Techmarine in charge of transporting these Rhinos, returning to his comrades, seeing but a few of them:

"Delivery of replacement Rhinos as per standard procedu...Praetor, where is our remaining Battalion?"

"Brother, this IS all that remains of our Battalion."

Your Rhinos are like Empty Chairs At Empty Tables.  I'm not sure how well it'll work, but you're onto something here.

I wonder what that kind of theorising should lead us to?

People will laugh and shake their head if you'd show up with that kind of nonsense, you loose a lot on money to buy them or at least time to print them and paint them for having a list without any flavor and completely nonsensical to the fluff.

Or is this ragebait?

Like and subscribe and smash that bell icon

Sure, maybe you could run this. But unless you use it pre-arranged as a joke list for some fun, no one is going to want to play again you…

Loopholes / unintended spam lists are obviously a thing. But without a competitive tournament scene, I’m not sure they’re actually a major problem.

Honestly it is a joke, I am a little salty that my current armies no longer work and I don't usually take a load of Centurions and being forced to now. Mostly take a Delegatus and that's it.

I don't think I could maintain sanity building so many Rhinos though and it would be prohibitively expensive also probably not fun for me or the opponent. Maybe if WHW did a tournament I would take it as a meme list.

The list I mentioned was literally my friend taking a Delgatus to unlock Rites of War to do all Preds.

You may just dismiss it as a joke, but don't dismiss it just because it's a joke.  I won a local Armies On Parade prize for an army based on a Regimental Standard piece of satire.  Salt is great for seasoning.  I don't know about the Centurions though, you got me there.

Continuing as if it was serious, the other issue is going to be if events allow one or more allied slots. I just know my lists are going to be spamming naked centurions since I am forced to. MY AL list will have 4 additional centurions at (a current price) of 160 points just to bring my current list and 3 in my Iron Warriors including one Siege Master I was bringing anyway. What are we supposed to do with these naked centurions that we didnt want to bring in the first place?

2.0 you could do all preds still, I'm assuming you still can in 3.0. Assuming there is a command pred you could have 16 in primary + 3 tank auxiliary. They said they wanted it to be more flexible and allow more thematic lists but feels more restrictive if anything.

Well it can still be done with no allies but it is cheaper to do it with them.

Praetor gives Apex Officer Cadre allowing 5 Centurions max so list is almost the same. Only 2 Centurions get prime slot too.

I don't like the idea that marines now need a manager Centurion looking over their shoulder to make sure they get to the battlefield.
