Things are still moving along, albeit slowly. I did nothing at all on these during the weekend, but I have managed to put some paint on all of the models at this point, except for the Beasts (I'm holding off doing those until I find my green stuff and get the sculpting/gap-filling done on the one whose arm broke off).
I'm happy to report that I really like where things are headed and that painting Nurgle models this way is, generally speaking, good fun. But I do wish painting all those boils were a bit faster...

Anyway, here are some wip pics:

You may/may not notice that I'm trying to do the snaily mount as a brown garden slug. I probably won't be able to nail the greyish-green-brown skin, but I'm quite happy with the shell, so far.

The 10 Plague Bearers in the first pics are almost done. The rest still need their boils and guts painted. I like the way the boils look, but it does take a bit of time, as I give them each individually a dot of white, then a carroburg crimson wash, then a yellow dot to make them (look ready to) pop - and then I guess they'll all need their eyes dotted at the very end.
I've taken to breaking them up into smaller batches, so as not to go totally crazy - it takes a bit of time, but we're going to get there!

So, things are getting close to completion! However, there's still quite a bit of work to be done, including:

- pretty much everything on the Beasts (but now the sculpting is done, so now it's "just" a question of finding a nice scheme for them and applying it...)
- Armour and details on the Prince (I went with a preheresyish Death Guard armour, trying stippling off-white on top of the primer as a sort of "reverse weathering" but there's still a lot to be done)

- Boils on the 20 remaining Plaguebearers (9 that still need everything done, 11 that just need their boils dotted with yellow), plus some details on the banners

- Finishing touches on the Heralds and the snail mount

Writing it out like that, it seems like a lot of work, but I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to finish these up today, so I can get started on a final(?) Nurgle vow.

The sun seems reluctant to show its face, so I tried getting some better pics using my table lamp. I'm a little bit unsure about the pupil-less Beasts, but I think they'll look super goofy with pupils, so...

As far as i can see, these look great! As far as pupils on such large eyes, id take a look at what jabba the hutt's eyes look like and try to mimic that. A painting challenge to be sure, but if you pull it off.... but if youre happy with how they are, so am I.

Thanks! I'm still considering what, if anything to do to the eyes, but as for the CtA they're done. So I just cracked on with my next vow.

I had a bit of a setback, because it turned out I'd glued the wings on in the wrong configuration, so I had to rip them off and reglue them, but now the last of the flies are assembled:

I also (re)painted the bases, coating everything in dark brown paint, then drybrushing it with the old "Vomit Brown" paint, which is my go to method for basing. Then I gave the stones some Skavenblight Dinge and soaked them in different diluted greens and browns:

As for the assembled flies, I undercoated black, then gave them a zenithal of light grey. I gave their bodies a coat of Shyish Purple and their wings got a coat of Turnbull Turqoise, then a dab of a "colourshift" effect paint that I borrowed from a friend (I hope to paint at his place again monday, so the three unpainted flies can get this treatment too). I didn't go overboard with it, as it was my first attempt with this type of effect, but I think it gives the wings a nice "insectish" sheen:

It doesn't seem to show up very much in the photos, but irl it has a semi-metallic sheen and shifts slightly from green to purple depending on the light. Quite a nice fly-wing effect, so that was a spot of luck :)

I also got started on the two heralds and the Medium Unclean One. The Heralds got some Flesh Tearers Red and the "tech priest" guy got a bit of drybrushing with a vermillion colour, whereas the wizardy/army standard bearery guy with the giant tick also got some purple wash and a yellowish drybrush on his skin.

Finally, I started on the skin for the Medium Unclean One:

First I drybrushed everything in Ironrach Skin, then I started dabbing diluted washes and contrasts in random places. The idea is that having these patches of colour under the "final" skin colour will help to make him look less like a big green plastic guy and more like a creature with "real" skin.
I know it looks crazy now, but it'll look crazy later too - hopefully in a good way.

So, I managed to get the last three flies and all the Plague Bearer riders primed. I also started work on the remaining six bases (the first six that I repainted were made by a previous owner, so I've tried to do something along the same lines, with some cork and stones. Later, I'll add some sand and tufts and paint them up similarly to the others).

I also got some more colours on the MUO. Next step is an all over drybrush with ann off white, to bring everything together and provide some under-highlights (for lack of a better term) for when I run a contrast or wash over the entire model. I think it'll work out well, but we shall see...

Got some more stuff done today (I won't get anything else done for the next couple of days, though). Further work on the bases, contrast on all the Plaguebearer riders and the Herald with the giant tick on his back, drybrush and contrast (Plaguebearer Flesh) on the Medium Unclean One.

I'm really quite happy with how effective the splotches of paint under the drybrush + contrast on the MUO is. There's obviously still some way to go before he's done, but I think he's shaping up nicely and I'm really happy that it looks like an effective way to avoid the "big green plastic guy" effect that painting his skin in one tone of green would probably have had.

IMG_0992.JPG

Okay, things are slowly nearing completion. Still wash and finishing on the fly carapaces and the weaponry on the MUO and the tech-herald and then detailing on everything (including roughly 8.000.000.000 boils...), but I'm confident that I'll get there before the deadline, at least.

The fly-riders are a much bigger job than I'd anticipated, though, even with a pretty simple paint  job, like the one I'm going for. Still, it's going to be cool to have them all done, so I'm glad I just took the plunge rather than following my initial instinct and only pledging six of them, which would likely have led to me being stuck with the rest in an unpainted state forever...

Oh yeah, I also stumbled upon my old Nurgle Soulgrinder and Maulerfiend conversions. I'd probably paint them slightly differently today, but I figured it might be fun for you to see them, too.

Things are nearing completion, but there's still a long way to go. It looks like I won't get an 80mm base for my Medium Unclean One™ in time, so I'll just have to stick him on a 90mm temporarily, once I'm done with him. The big boils on him might need some additional work that I still need to figure out, as a simple coat of yellow doesn't work quite as well as on the smaller boils, but I'm sure I'll think of something gross.

I decided to give the Heretek-d00d a horn, to emphasise his Nurgleness a bit more.

I'm thinking I might give the Plaguedrone riders a coat of satin varnish on their innards - I usually think differences in sheen on various parts of models can get a bit iffy, but in this case I think it might work.

In any case, things are moving along, although not as fast as I had hoped - I was kinda-sorta hoping to get off one more vow, but that seems unrealistic at this point in time...
