Kilamandaros
Yea the Land Raider detachment is definitely the highlight of the 3, some great stratagems and enhancements and very thematic - the other 2 much less so. Terminators & Sternguard look much much worse than regular versions (and termies were not great to begin with) but our LRC looks amazing as long as it keeps the assault ramp as well - it's actually way better than the Razorback as it's until the end of the turn not phase, which is fantastic, especially with the buffs in the transport detachment. Obviously RC would need a total rework with vows replacing OoM. Perhaps just Wrathful Procession will be kept... Just FYI on this, I've discovered that all the grotmas detachments are still available to use, even when a new codex comes out - so Wrathful Procession is still available for BT use, where Righteous Crusaders obviously isn't. redmapa
Now there are pictures of our specific units over on Reddit and it corroborates what Dorn of War leaked yesterday, Sword Brethren are looking really good imo as their chainswords have sustained hits and all the power weapons are mastercrafted so they are all lethal hits and damage 2 but oddly enough there is no longer a Castellan or a combi weapon in the unit so now those bits are just to make an extra Castellan to potentially lead a 4 man SB sqsuad if you wish. A 10 man SB squad with a Marshall is just going to wreck face. Kilamandaros
Sad Crusaders & Sword Brothers lost an attack, though guess that was the sacrifice to get sustained/lethal. Still feel like Bladeguard with a Lieutenant will be better than SBs as much more resilient (admittedly less so now without FNP) and have more attacks per model. Sir Clausel
Im not too happy about the Sword Brethren change. They are worse than bladeguard on their own. Only thing that makes them good is adding two characters which think is a bit sad. They will now either have to be too cheap to feel like an elite unit or they will be too expensive to be usefull. And that is only talking offensive. Defensive they are like glass. Especially with no AoC. I think Helbrect may be better with crusaders. Add a Lieutenant for lethals and sustained. But then again it might be better to switch Helbrecht for a regular Marshal for the 5+ crits Edited Friday at 07:16 AM by Sir Clausel Helias_Tancred 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386135-new-templar-codex-supplement/page/3/#findComment-6124164 Share on other sites
jimbo1701
Still digesting the rules changes but got my boys out and looking to paint up some of the units needing the white and red. One gripe, would it really have hurt GW to have put the codex and cards in a box set with the two new characters and say a crusader squad and LRR? Seeing as almost every faction (including all other divergent chapters) got one it’s a bit frustrating. Sir Clausel
I for one am happy that they didnt release a army box. Because thrn you would have to wait for the real release to get points updates and such. Maybe im biased since i have a huge army but most of the time the boxes are filled with units you already have plenty of plus the new ones. Marshal Reinhard
Completely forgot I should preorder quickly today, so missed the window on the special cover codex. Just as well really, too expensive for a book that wont last long. Ordered 2 ancients and 1 execrator, trying the option of picking 'em in a warhammer store, since I actually have one nearish now. Plan is to grab mr. Centos at the same time. Sir Clausel
I just ordered one of each. Have already converted an Execrator already and dont plan to use more than one Crusader Ancient. But i might get more later because of all the gourmet bits! Knight of Maccrage Posted yesterday at 02:51 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:51 AM Now that people have had a chance to dig in to the rules, what do we think the new plays are? - How are we handling knights/dark eldar/custodes? - What are the strongest builds? - How many heretics and xenos will you slay with your black sword? Kilamandaros
I only play Crusade these days so my opinion on what might be 'meta' can be taken with salt - that said I don't think any of the 3 detachments are going to be competitive. They look fun but they are far too niche and not overly powerful (look like great fun and very thematic for casual games however). That said I think our core rules & datasheets are much improved, and with Gladius or Stormlance there may well be a very competitive list there. We hit a lot harder now, but have less resilience without the FNPs. Time will tell! I've got one of each of the new characters, a 2nd LRC/Redeemer and a Lancer to add to my ongoing Armageddon Crusade, can't wait! Sir Clausel
I agree. Especially loss of AoC is a tough loss. And our detachments lacks some more flexibility like Gladuis. But then again stormlance is also just rush forward :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386135-new-templar-codex-supplement/page/3/#findComment-6125228 Share on other sites

Sir Clausel
Yeah but our detachments lack it. Maybe im just biased because my friend complains about AoC quite a bit :p Edited 10 hours ago by Sir Clausel Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386135-new-templar-codex-supplement/page/3/#findComment-6125253 Share on other sites
Knight of Maccrage
AoC is good, but i don't think it's good enough to make or break a detachment. Especially if you're running mechanics assault, smoke will do the same thing better, or -1 dmg depending on matchup. Im reading builds as fundamentally: the codex is still a big bag of hammers with cool characters. Ultimately, we play kinda close to world eaters without the daemon support. So, mech assault, infantry assault, or combined. Sticky objectives for everyone sounds really strong, but a good mech assault capability, stacked with +1 to wound, just seems stronger over all. May just balance with some jump pack guys for action monkeys and go to town.
