I'm doing a Deathwatch army for the CtA this year (link in my signature if you want to see it) and, while my first vow is already made, I figured some of you might find it fun to share your custom chapters with me, so I can add one of your guys to my watch fortress.

So yeah, any info you can give me about your custom chapter (colour scheme, iconography, culture, preferred weaponry etc.) would be welcome, then I'll see what I can do. I'm not great at freehanding chapter badges, but I'll give it a shot

That's a neat idea.  I would appreciate you adding somebody with the chapter symbol of this unamed chapter I painted - it helps share the memory of my friend.

Space wolves grey would work for the pad colour, then their symbol is that gold "I" with the eye and its red tear imposed on it that you see everywhere in the photos in the attached link.

I would be happy, as well as honoured to do that! I think I can manage the chapter symbol and if I can't, I'm sure the Queen can. Either way, we'll manage to do something that looks and feels right.

I'm doing my Deathwatch with half of their original armour instead of just the pad, so that'll leave a bit more of his chapter colours alive. Do you think it would be most fitting to model a more "old school" looking veteran or do you like the idea of his chapter moving on into the new age as e.g. an infiltrator or some of the other new marine units available to Deathwatch?

I do like this idea, actually did something similar waaaay back, incorporating a chapter created for the Liber Astartes Swap Challenge in 2021 into my own Deathwatch force. When I eventually get around to advancing that project (it's no further along, over 4 years later!) I plan to add more homebrew chapters from the B&C.

If my own chapter- The Argent Praetorians - is any use to you, you can find details on them here. Armour is polished silver with black shoulder pads, and purple accents (weapon casings, cloth etc), example below.

Thanks guys - I'll be sure to give them a look when I get back home. I think it should be possible to fit them into my next batch :)

My current batch is coming along nicely, although there is still a lot of detailing to be done.

I'd love you to add a Knight of Ibelin, my Blood Angel Ultima Founding Successor. What's great is that if you've had any of the last three editions launch sets you'll have their chapter icon!

Ushabti bone with a black trim!

Always happy to plug my DIY Chapters!

Marines Adamant:

Iron Hand Successors that recruit from a Feudal/Feral World. Grim, superstitious and unbreakable.

The Emperor's Blade

Pious, Emperor-worshipping Ultramarine Successors. View Guilliman as a Saint and the Codex as a Holy Book.

Stormbringers

Efficient and pragmatic White Scar Successors, with a thin veneer of civility over a core of savage brutality.

I'm fine with whatever you want to do - I'm sure that if the army had continued into 8th edition (and beyond) it would have acquired new models and I'm pretty sure Mike wouldn't have had any problem with primaris as neither of us got into the whole new vs old schism.  So do whatever works for you.  That said, I think it might look cool if you have a power fist guy to do the power fist in their colours with red fingers - or the same idea with a chainsword and a red casing and a white slogan on the side (something very second ed like "kill" or "faith").  Those are just suggestions, though, the most important is something that works with the look you want.

I'll be sure to do something along those lines! I actually have a "wolf face" helmet in my bits box that might be cool to use as a nod to the wolf helmet squad in his army, if you think that'd be a good idea - otherwise I'll just use a normal helmet. Both are fine with me, so it's just a question of what you think would be the most fitting tribute :)

It's this helmet, as far as I can tell:

That's not a bad idea, but I think given the similarity in colour schemes between Mike's marines and the Wolves, I fear that would be a source of confusion and probably better saved for an actual Space Wolf.  I appreciate the thought, though, and of course defer to whatever you think works best for you.

Sorry for the double post, but do you have a beakie helmet?  My friend was partial to beakies.

I certainly do. I'll be sure to do a marine (of some sort) with a beakie helm and a red weapon with a slogan of some sort in my next vow of Deathwatch :)

And I'll also see if I can't include these guys in my next batch - thanks for the suggestions :)

If you wish, my guys are pretty plain, known colloquially as the Iron Boots, though their actual chapter name is still wip (Leaning towards Angels of Iron Mercy). The Chapter badge is pretty plain, black and red quarters, but they also always have their boots as unpainted metallic grey, regardless of their rank or position (originally boltmetal grey with a nuln oil wash).

Ostensibly descended from Ultramarines, the Iron Boots fervently follow a version of the Imperial Truth that sees not only the Emperor but his nine sons as literal gods, and individual marines will often choose a “totem” primarch they feel an affinity for as an example to follow.

Service in the deathwatch is encouraged, and actively sought after by many marines that reach veteran status, as a way to meet and reach out to their “brothers” in other chapters.

So if you want to toss a few iron boots in the mix in search of their “brethren”, feel free.

I think its so boring always to see the known chapters in a deathwatch army and even in all events which happen in the storyline although there are 1000 chapters.

I dont play an DW army but if i would, my army would have 50 percent unknown chapters, 25 the supported chapters like WS, IF, BT, BA, UM .... and 25 percent the other known chapters like  Minotaurs, White Templars, howly griffons, Exorcists, Angel Encarmine, Angels of Redemption, Black Consuls....

That's an awesome idea !

Feel free to include one of my Void Cuirassiers (link to my wip thread in the signature for the chapter symbol, basically a cuirass on a blue pauldron)

I don't have any fluff developped for them yet, but something along the idea of they are an Ultima Founding chapter, descended from the Ultramarines, they were created from unnumbered sons under Ultramarine guidance after saving a cardinal world (the real world inspiration for the chapter are the french 6th regiment of cuirassiers who were first created in the XVIIth century as the "Dragons du Cardinal" and have kept the symbols associated with the title of cardinal in their iconography : see my profile picture for an example)

Their motto is "In periculo ludunt" the motto of the real world french 12th regiment of cuirassiers, meaning, in french "au danger mon plaisir". It's rather hard to translate to something as catchy in english, but it means they love facing danger
