Now, don't get me wrong I've been a loyal son of Russ for nearly 30 years now; I'm just spit-balling here.

I've been mentally toying with making a fluffy full 100-man "Codex" Company 2000 point army list, using the Gladius Detachment, for a while now.

Historically (pre-Primaris) this list would be comprised of: 1+ HQ units (character & potentially a command squad), 6 Troops squads (Tactical Squads), 2 Assault Squads (Assault Squad with jump packs) & 2 Heavy Support squads (Devastator Squads).

Primaris Codex Company 2000 point army list:

Characters - 1 Captain (potentially switching to a Captain w/ JP, saving 5 points), 1 Apothecary & 2 Lieutenants

Battleline - 6 (10-man) Intercessor Squads

Other Datasheets - 2 (10-man) Assault Intercessor Squads w/Jump Pack & 2 (10-man) Hellblaster Squads

Total: 1980 points

I had toyed around with a few different configurations (ex: dropping the Apothecary & both Lt's for a Company Heroes unit, switching out the HB's for Desolation Squads, etc.), but ultimately went with the fully stocked ten 10-man units, to stay within the 2000pt limit.

My main issue with the list has always been it's theoretical ability (or lack there-of) to take down high Toughness vehicles/monsters. Lots of low/medium strength shots, even recently coupled with the +1 to Wound from Oath, seems a little lack-luster; being the factor holding me back from committing.

So...the Space Wolves Codex Supplement comes along, bringing with it the Saga of the Beast Slayer (SotBS) Detachment...Lethal Hits against all Characters, Monsters & Vehicles ( andthen Lethal Hits against all unit types after the Saga is completed). There would be a heavy reliance on fishing for 6's to hit against the bigger targets, but a ton of shots to try and make that happen. Cinematic? Quite possibly.

Potential list reworks:

1. Using SotBS I could see swapping the Apothecary & both Lt's for a Company Heroes unit (since the Lt's Lethal Hits Ability would be mostly redundant).

2. Or, taking 2 Apothecaries (attached to the HB's) & a Phobos Lt instead.

Obviously this is more of a fluffy, rather than competitive style list; I'm wondering how people think this list would perform with Saga of the Beast Slayer?

Edit 1: I do realize that a few of the Enhancements and Strats will not work with the list above.

Edit 2: As I wrote this I didn't have the Codex Supplement with me; I hope this idea isn't invalidated by SotBS Detachment rules only affecting "Space Wolf" keyworded units.

Fluff means you dont care how it performs in a competitive environment

IMO there is not enough AP in this list

Once the hell blasters are removed you are in trouble

Beastslayer has no AP buffs in shooting or melee

And by using non SW you are potentially losing out on the 6" reactive move stratagem that helps keep us alive (melee unit hops back into transport)

I think you're trying to fill a round hole with square peg if I'm being honest. Lethal hits will help you wound vehicles but like TiguriusX pointed out your list is light on AP, so they will have a pretty good shot of making the saves. You also wouldn't benefit much from the stratagems 4 of them are locked to space wolf units, and 1 of the 2 you could use is the reactive move that was mentioned above, but for that one you would roll a d6 instead of moving 6. To be fair the space wolf book probably needs to be the worst at running a "codex" style list, but GW definitely made it not play nice with vanilla book in a lot of ways.

Another point that I feel is important to bring up is that space wolves can't run apothecaries, and I wouldn't be surprised if at the actual release we lose access to more stuff possibly even intercessors (we've never been able to take tacticals and with new GH & BC I could see us losing access to their replacement). For what it's worth I think we'll keep access to them but it's hard to recommend them until the actual release.

I like the theme you're going for but primaris are a collection of specialists, and it just feels like this list is over tuned to kill battleline. I'd probably dop a unit of hellblasters, and a Lt. for 3 units of eradicators, or if having 100 guys on the dot is important 2 units of Eradicators and a unit of company heroes. It would still very much be on the fluffy side of things, but it'd have some options for vehicles.
