nusphigor
Hi everyone! I am having a kind of new vision for my hobby (?). Lately I've had some issues in my life and my store that had me in quite a bad place, but now that i've changed things I kinda have been able to enjoy the hobby once again! However, the state of the current game bored me a lot, so I went online and found oldhammer. I went and started painting an ultras squad just to try and see if I liked painting like that and throughly enjoyed it! The idea is to have many small armies to play 2nd or 3rd edition 40k and the only rules are no metallic paints, all the minis have to have at least 2 bright colours and every mini has to have a brown base with green grass. So far I've finished a tactical combat squad and a veteran. The veteran is old Captain Centos, but since I didn't had the backpack with a cape I demoted him to veteran and my head cannon is that it's from the time when he was on the 1st company yet. At this moment in time my ultras army is under the leadership of Captain Kruger (form the old pc game Chaos Gate) and his archnemesis is old Chaos Lord Zymran from the Word Bearers Legion. In my background, the campaign for the Khymerra System isn't just for the ultras and chaos armies, but there's a full on system war with many different forces just like in Dawn of War Soulstorm. Only with way more marine chapters involved. As for other armies I am working on the first minis of a Space Wolves force which be under the command of Wolf Guard Battle Leader Hundraðtíar (Centos in pseudo old norse XD) and Rune Priest Haglhríð who are under the leadership of Ragnar Blackmane. These minis are from my pledge to the Call to arms of this year. So far I've basecoated them, did some light shadows and pinwashed them. I guess i will start with the Grey Hunters and a Wolf Guard just to replicate how I have my ultras and do a small comparison. As for other minis I have to work on the forces of Lord Zymran and his daemons, An Eldar Farseer and the Steel Legion. The plan is to collect a full eldar force and then an orc and a genestealer cults one. It is quite a big project but it's because I'm getting in love with how I'm encountering the bits of the hobby that I used to love when i started almost 20 years ago and it's been like coming home. Cheers and I hope you guys enjoy my ramblings! Firedrake Cordova
Oldhammer with no metallic paints or Goblin Green base rims? Heresy! More seriously, the Ultramarines look great - you've done them proud nusphigor 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386165-nusphis-log-grey-hunters-finished-27-june-2025/#findComment-6117831 Share on other sites
One-eye
Love the oldhammer vibe and your Ultramarines look amazing. Have a few of the old Space Wolves myself, I love those minis. Looking forward to see what you do with them. nusphigor 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386165-nusphis-log-grey-hunters-finished-27-june-2025/#findComment-6117834 Share on other sites

I know those rules seem weird but they are more to reflect how i learnt to paint and to model at the start instead of the common oldhammer consensus :) 13 hours ago, One-eye said: Love the oldhammer vibe and your Ultramarines look amazing. Here is an update of what i got to do today: So far i got to do some basecoats and shades on one grey hunter to check the feel of the end result a bit. I might take all the minis to this step and then highlight each one. However, i couldn't paint much because it was necromunda day! I got my rear handed back to me so hard by the corpse grinders... I had to bottle out with my Orlocks (both because i couldn't do much by the end and because i was feeling unwell because of my medicine, so i had to come back home and sleep). Here are some pics of the game. Please excuse the unpainted stuff but we don't mind much that when we want to play with my mate. We played the relic mission and we are playing the dark uprising campaign. So far its 0-1 to the corpse grinders but i got a nice amount of xp to my grenade launcher road sergeant, road captain and greenhorn because of the out of action minis they got to do but i lost my old ganger "the kid" due to failing to pay the medic fee after the game because he got out of action thanks to a madman with a horrible chainsaw. I love that game. I hope i keep feeling better so that i can go out home and play more in the future. Thanks for reading! nusphigor
By the way, my chaos daemons pledge to the Call to arms has been approved so i'll be working on those minis too. It's a Daemon Prince, 5 flamers of tzeentch, 7 pink horrors, 16 blue horrors and 15 cultists. The idea is to paint them as similar as i can as the Chaos gate models but with the horrors make them more fleshy like (with pink and blue subtones) just so i can use them as mutants if i ever play the army as a lost and the damned list. In the cultist side, there's the two nurgle cultists from the siege of vraks but i'm thinking of using muted colours and just paint the nurgle symbols as decorations instead of going full on that god just so i can use them as undivided or dedicated to other gods too. I'm thinking what else to add to this force, but i guess i would have to do an actual army list (which i dislike) to have things more clear and have more defined objectives... Oh well, the chaos gods will make their wills known i suppose. nusphigor
Hello again guys! i have another update for my wolves. I started with the bolter marines of my grey hunter squad. Now i'm highlighting each colour but i don't know how to paint the squad markings. If just a triangle or more like a maw. now the only thing tondo is highlight the black, the red and then paint the nmm steel (which is the last thing I usually do). Then paint the earth and varnish the models so that i can place the decals and done! I suppose after this the next miniatures would be the banner bearer and a wolf guard. I'll update the thread as soon as I have more advances! nusphigor
Grey Hunters finished! (At least until the backpacks arrive) I had to fix the right wrists with greenstuff because i measured the distance wrong hahahaha Oh well, next time i'll put on the shoulderpad and THEN measure the distance for the bolters xD They are lacking more tribal signs like runes on the guns or the kneepads but the idea is that they earn these in game just like my ultras. Now to paint the standard bearer! If i continue with this speed i'll finish my vow in no time :p Grotsmasha, Tallarn Commander, Firedrake Cordova and 1 other 1 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386165-nusphis-log-grey-hunters-finished-27-june-2025/#findComment-6118697 Share on other sites
