Special rules that let you move after shooting.

Hello everyone.

So, if I have a rule that says a unit can make a move after shooting (Necron Chronomancer with warriors) , does said unit have to shoot in order to use this abilty? As in not having an eligible target can it just skip the shooting and take the free move or does not taking any shots prevent the free move?

Thanks.

The wording of the ability says:

Quote

After the model's unit has shot...

This means that shooting is the trigger for the rule. Being in the shooting phase is not enough, they actually have to shoot something to activate the ability.

I used to use a Chronomancer.  You actually need an eligible target AND you had to have shot at them, as per above.  I'd like to think of it as laying down covering for the Chronomancer to use the ability.

Edit - at some point I did switch to a Royal Warden with an Enhancement that made an extra Movement at some point, which seemed more useful and thematic, like a harsh taskmaster driving his unit forwards.  I did have the same issue you did with the Chronomancer, like the time I need the extra movement the most is precisely because my unit's way in the back with nothing to shoot at.
