Hello,

while lists cannot be changed during an event (like a tournament) and should not be tailored to a certain opponent army. What about rearranging one's list? Did anyone ever experiment with this?

Example:

I recently played against Dark Angels Deathwing Knights and noticed that my Celestians+Hospitaller held a full turn against them (great!). However, against Imperial Guard, I prefer them with a Palatine. Luckily, I have both in my list. So I can do the switcheroo and play Celestians+Hospitaller against DA and Celestians+Palatine against Guard.

I identified a few combos already, where this is useful

  • Celestians+Hospitaller for durability, Celestians+Palatine for damage
  • BSS+Multimelta+Palatine+Dialogus for miracle dice auto-wounds, BSS+Flamer+Hospitaller for objective holders
  • Dominions/(Retributors)+Palatine for takedown heavies (T >= 10), Dominions/(Retributors)+Dialogus to boost damage of the meltas (T <= 9) - I prefer Dominions, since Retributors are so squishy

So that gives the following options:

  • Against heavy melee army/heavy vehicle army: Celestians+Hospitaller, BSS+Multimelta+Palatine+Dialogus, Dominions solo
  • Against ranged army/flood army: Celestians+Palatine, BSS+Hospitaller, Dominions+Dialogus

Any other ideas for combos where this would work? (Dogmata/Imagnifier/Canoness on foot do not seem that useful in this edition)

Don't forget our humble Dialogus.  Turning any miracle dice used for her unit into a six is great tech for getting use out of low roll miracle dice.  That plus a one off removing battleshock from a unit within 12" is great given how cheap she is points wise.  Double value for the Detachment that lets units use two miracle dice.

One of my favourite pieces of gear is the enhancement that makes a character unit Penitent. Unfortunately, it can only be used if you're fielding the Penitent Host detachment, and it can only be equipped by a Canoness, Palatine or Priest. While Penitent, the character can benefit from/ use any strat that can only be used by Penitent units, and they can be attached to Repentia.

Of the three characters, the Palatine is the best fit... But personally I like the gear for modelling reasons: What would a penitent Canoness look like anyway?

See I feel that gear is not actually making her a Penitent but possible a redeemed Penitent and has made her way back up to a leadership role, but maintaining her knowledge of the Penitent ways.

I think the Dialogous body with a whip or a an eviscerator  would be a good start.

Both interpretations are possible.

Speaking of redemption arcs: If you're a Crusader like me, you probably LOVE the Penitent Oath Requisitions and Agendas. While this enhancement does let you play a Penitent HQ choice (or a redeemed Penitent), the text of the Crusade Penitence and Redemption rules only apply to Repentia and Mortifiers.

It would be easy enough to house rule it, but I think it was overlooked because current Crusade mechanics don't deal with Relics as well as 9th did. In 10th, Relics only exist while the detachment that allows them is in play- there is no way to add one to the roster with requisition like the good ole days.
