Great progress!  Things seem on track to meet your deadline.  Do you have a schedule in your head for progressing through the remaining stuff or is it more of blocking time to paint each day?  Interested if there’s a trick I can borrow as I’m struggling to find motivation for my CtA pledge and I think part of that is that I don’t have a game/campaign deadline that I’m working toward.

Right now just trying to block out time to paint and balance family life as a (step) dad, which is still newish.  I have a plan in my head and sometimes written down on forums. I do create Google spreadsheets to keep organized.  The Slow Grow league I am in I get 1 point for a win,1 point for 3-4 paragraph short story/ battle report, and 1 point for painted models and it is 1 game a month.  So that has been a great motivator. I honestly I have failed more CtAs than I have succeeded. Next year I think I'll just wear the badge of shame from the start . The 12 month Hobby Challenge is great motivator too.

Some tricks I have been taught/ learned over the years:

  • Use the 3 foot rule- Most of the time people will see your models at 3 feet. So save super detailing work to Characters/ Large models
  • Batch paint colors- I batch paint models by color. I have 6 of the Old GW handles but use 5 for my squads and 1 for a Character.
  • Don't over complicate your scheme
  • No armor stays neat and shiny for long
  • Find a paint brand/ type of paint you like and stick to it
  • Nuln oil is a blessing but is also a crutch
  • Paint in blocks
  • Learn to do decals and practice
  • Have a dedicated work space. I think I am starting version 4 of my hobby area.
  • Use a wet pallet but be cautious. I live in a very dry hot climate. My Wet pallet dries out quickly. I have a Humidifer I run when I paint.
  • Background noise. One of my first hobby areas had a tv above my desk. Unfortunately I could not see it while at the desk so it was a listen to a show on it. I use an Alexa device and work on models to music, pod casts, audible books. Right now it is the Crow Motion Picture Soundtrack
  • GW Primer is expensive and does not color match. Try other brands
  • 24 hour paint sessions are a thing, on youtube. If you are tired get some rest.
  • Have good lighting
  • Using cheap reading glasses to help paint does work.
  • Maintain a Blog on here helps. Even if it is just me venting, I am still doing something in the hobby.
