I suspect the target market for the new Tyranid patrol is people who already have the old one from Hachette's Combat Patrol partwork. The Tyranid portion is currently close to (or recently) complete in the USA release and premium subscribers will have a big bug too that I assume the tyrant guard can assist.

The psychophage is the monster in the current (old) CP and Tyrant guard can't guard it. They can only guard Hive Tyrant (on foot) and the Neurotyrant.

I doubt it was for the Hachette crowd, that is too small cut of the player base for new CP designed for them. But this could be an ok addition to those that got the current CP or even the made the Vanguard one.

The Hive Tyrant is one of the premium subscription extras, which was what made me think the new patrol lined up well as a 'you could buy this next' offer. It's probably less specific in reality, but it's how I imagine sales strategists might think.

The Parasite is also in Hachette mag as  the additional unit for Tyranids.

This is the other reason I think Hachette wasn't in the conversation for the designing of the new CP.

I can see the through line, but your starting point is off. Looking back this CP would make a good addition for another boxset, Leviathan. It has the Neurotyrant, plus could use a decent backline unit (the biovore) and the stealers are a decent add for a first or second strike unit.

Honestly if I wasn't already getting the Hachette set, I'd grab like two of the new nid CP, the hive guard are actually really good in assimilation swarm and the biovore can double as a pyrovore for more heals.

On the models though I have a feeling that the Parasite lost it's swarm making ability in the CP. Since there are no ripper swarms in the box.

Wolves box is ruined by the wulfen...god they are awful models, which ruin the magnificent new sculpts.  Templar box and Nid box look great....from a models perspective...i dont game, i just collect and paint so i cant comment on their effectiveness in the game.

100% agree, the sculpts are soo soo bad. i had to convert min using primaris bodies with wulfen heads and arms.  I dont want to have to waste 5 generic primaris marines to rectify that eyesore that is the wulfen models.

The rest of teh model are great because i can never have to many GH/BC  and i cant ever have to many Battle leaders or wolf gaurd.

Parasite is the cheapest Character unit (points/money) that isn't yet another winged prime, I imagine that's the reason it's in there.

A broodlord would have been a better, more synergetic choice. But that would have been the smart play.

The Space Wolf box caught my eye. I've been looking for an excuse to buy Wulfen for a Cursed Founding project and the new Space Wolf sculpts with some really choice bits are making this decision easier. Wulfen limbs, Left-handed storm bolters, a two-handed axe for Terminators and power axes that are really easy to de-Space Wolf are all really tempting.
