A nice spread of models for the Leagues, very happy to see them getting more than just a character and the codex. My favourite from this lot is easily the Strategist, just a really cool looking model. After that it's probably the Kapricus, I think the anti-grav plates work a lot better here than they do on the bikes and the Yaegir stuff have a great look with the big coats and more rugged feel. Not certain how I feel right now about the Steeljacks, I don't dislike them but they aren't blowing my socks off either, I could see them growing on me.

I'm in love with the strategist and the big robots. The flying buggy is a tad goofy. Mortar is nice enough and the tyranid survivor is cool. The scientist is a good concept but the model looks a bit awkward.

I'm really tempted to start the Votann or at least get some of these robots just to paint. Ironkin were always my favourite thing of the new squat lore, but they were underrepresented in the model front. This new robot unit is exactly what I hoped the army would get.

The buggy looks just like a combination of the Pioneer bikes and the Sagitaur, it's not distinct enough imo but I'll take it. I'm hyped, almost everything I wanted

It really doesn't remind me of the Sagitaur at all, considering it's open front and open back whereas the Sagitaur is just an armored VW Beetle.

IT REALLY reminds me of the impulsor, just way cooler.

I meant sagitaur as in the troop transport capacity lol
I assume we'll be able to split the Yaegir unit into two five-man squads with this? I have played exactly one game with Yaegirs and didn't love them, any thoughts on that?

I do kind of wish the Steeljack shoulders were a little bigger, closer to Hearthguard shoulders. I still want 100 of them though. This is going to be a good year

They did mention that the transports will include rules for combat squadding whatever doesn't fit into the truck, and specifically mentioned 10 man units getting broken into two five man squads so I think it will work very similarly to how the Sagitaur works in that regards.

Steeljacks are so cool.  MIght have finally found my Ogryn proxy.  Slap some IG heads on them instead of the chrome domes and they'll approximate exo-suits well enough.

So when the LoV first came out, I liked them, but I held off diving in for a few reasons:

- I was already collecting SO many other armies, and money was tight

- I didn't like hover trikes, and with so few units, not liking one was a big deal

- not enough Ironkin

This preview SMASHED all of those excuses to pieces. First off: Ironkin for days! Not just a unit, but also a character... You could build a cool little ALL Ironkin detachment with that character and three units of these dudes... But that's not all: while I stand by my disapproval of hover trikes, the hover quad is sweet, AND it can be built with a pure Ironkin crew, which also improves the likelihood that it can transport Ironkin, so you could build three with all Ironkin crews, attach the character to one of the Ironkin units and mount all three.

That's a very cool little army.

Those new Ironkin are really goofy-looking in a good way. I kinda love them.

The Arkanyst Evaluator is probably my favorite of the character reveals. Love his mad scientist look.

Very solid reveal. These guys and the new Chaos Duardin for AoS really stole the show for me. They'll make welcome reinforcements for the Fear-Diadh Confederation.

Did they make mention of a launch box?

No mention of a box that I picked up on and the article states

And of course, there will be a new dice set and a deck of Datacards to round out the Leagues of Votann release.

Which would suggest not. My wallet sighs with relief.

I really like some of these models, but I don't like all the robot units in the army (thematically) despite how good some of them look.

I kind of like the idea of this faction having access to ancient STCs and using ai robots, but these robots are just becoming too common in the faction - and it makes the idea that they've kept a lot of this secret from the Imperium even less plausible.

It's not even the AdMech they would have to worry about - heck, if Guilliman found out about some of this he'd bring the hammer down on the Votann (as access to an STC is in the interest of the whole Imperium).

Maybe I just need GW to give me a lot more Votann lore and really dive into how they fit into the grim/dark galaxy through some more novels. This faction, would at the very least be trading with the Imperium in some way.

They fit in the Grimdark by being ruthless resource gatherers who will stripmine your planet out from under you and live in the most dangerous and hostile to life part of the Galaxy that's not dealing with the Ghoul Stars supernatural stuff.

As for trading with the Imperium, I'd assume the non-Ironkyn do that or they tell anyone they find that the Ironkyn are using datawafers and are under remote supervision from [Insert Made-up Forgeworld].

As for the Ironkyn being too prevalent..?

They're kinda meant to be. They're essentially just small Men of Iron that aren't trying to kill the Kyn because they're treated like equals and not as slaves.

It's not a unique idea in setting either since the T'au see their Drones as Mechanical Citizens of the Empire who are just highly specialised in their talents (Yep. T'au see their drones as another Auxiliary species with equal Auxiliary rights).

The prevalence of Ironkyn also helps the Grimdark a bit since as soon as you take more than a moment's thought about it you realise that the entire Leagues are just a primarily biological droneswarm that their Votann controls (whilst dealing with 999999ping due to 10k+ millenia of unclosed Chrome Tabs).

Very much like all of these, especially those characters. All fantastic! Something about these just seems to have far more character than many of the miniatures they currently have.

I think it would have been good if the Cthonian team also included the Thudd Gun, but hopefully they get that eventually.

Really the main thing I dislike is the use of swords on the Steeljacks, they seem like they aren't long enough for them to properly use.

The reason the Imperium hasn't figured it out is because the Imperium doesn't even properly know about the "Leagues of Votann". They get misidentified as all manner of different species, with no one able to agree on who or what they are, and how they should be classified. Neither are they aware of the extent of them, or their heavy presence in the galactic core.

My main problem with squats was with how short they were, so I'm glad to see they have now rescaled them and finally made some tall squats and accompanying primaris lieutenant

It's funny how the idea of "a big ironkin" for them just ends up being....human sized

No I get all that, but I'm not sure I believe that the Votann and the Imperium wouldn't have clashed over at least one planet at some point over the last few thousand years. If there was a full scale war, I don't imagine they'd be able to keep things a secret.

Also, the Imperium has spies that can literally infiltrate xenos societies. They'd gather information on the Votann as they also resemble a lost human colony or empire from the Dark Age.

Going back to the models, the Votann range just became so much more expansive and varied. Actual unit options, long range mortar style units, a decent vehicle selection now, etc
