I'm happy for confirmation that the Memnyr can join a unit of Steeljacks: now I just need to know maximum size for a Steeljack unit. It's probably just a flat three, but I'm hoping for 3/6 option.

I'll never have a full Votann army I don't think, but a Memnyr leading a unit of Steeljacks could lead to some good RP/ narrative. It isn't that I don't like Votann enough to have a bigger force- I certainly do. But I've just got too much other stuff to paint/ buy/ store.

Now that we've had a few weeks to digest the new models, the range has grown on me more.

I still feel there are too many robots in the army, but the variety of units is definitely making the whole faction more interesting.

Six Steeljacks and a Memnyr: the group of seven.

Perfect!

It would be magnificent.

I'm only interested in the new vehicle as a basis for a mad Necromunda conversion, but that's a way down the line.

"Two separate datasheets"

Does this mean we can run 3 units of each datasheet? Assuming we can run 6 per unit, that's 36 Steeljacks

Spoiler

Battleline Steeljacks please

Almost definitely. As far as I know there are no other units in the game where separate data-sheets doesn't mean 'up to 3 of each'. Like all the gladiator variants or predators or land raiders... Or like assault terminators and terminators... Or 8Bound and Exalted 8Bound. Yea, I'm upgrading this to 'definitely'.

If Kapricus transport is 'dedicated' that will also mean a max of 9 Kapricus hulls is legal. Now I just wanna see a raider/venom spam list face off against Kapricus spam on a 'floor is lava' table lol

yes, if they have 2 datasheets you can run 3 of each data sheet. I think its been spoken here or somewhere else that there is a melee one and a ranged one. this mean potentionaly you could run 6 units of jax.

I really hope that the fists are not (as is typical) just flat out better for the steeljacks than the swords. The swords look significantly cooler.

This is something I really wish GW would pay more attention to. Options have been reduced in the current edition already, but as points are gone it often is the case that most of the theoretically existing options are not viable. If there are no points, they should endeavour to make different options more equally viable.

So they would be like Tyranid Warriors, I imagine

This is a problem in almost every instance, and clearly a holdover from previous editions where power fist was generally more expensive than 'power weapon'. Power fists still outdo power weapons in most cases based purely on +4S and +1 dmg being better on its face than +1A and +1S when AP is the same... Marine Sgt Power weapon needs to be like 5A and AP-3 to make any sense in direct comparison to a power fist.

More to Leagues side - hearthguard plasma blade gauntlet loses because it's damage 1, period. If it were just the same but damage 2 it would be more of a choice because S6 is good enough in an infantry fight, but any fight in which the S and AP is warranted is likely to also need Dmg2 for monsters/vehicles or just near-peer multi-wound infantry. I've long abandoned building for rules. If a certain option looks better, I'm building it and just saying that they are whichever stat-line is the best, especially when it's so obvious. Concussion gauntlet has the benefit of looking better of the two on hearthguard, but I agree that the swords may be better on the jacks.

My initial guess is that Steeljacks will be 4A with a sword and 3 with a fist even though IMO 5A on the sword would be more comparable to 3A fist. It looks like the prevailing logic of the list will be 'attacking things on objectives' and the Jacks seem to focus specifically on characters and objectives, so I'm looking at these as disposable turn 2/3 assassin push pieces, just giving the Hearthguard OC push a little more space in the mid-game, while targetting lynchpin characters as needs be...

Glad to be proven wrong! 6A swords seem decent, and I was worried disintergrator jacks would be like 3 shots each so 6 is a great number, especially for the Overwatch shenanigans!
