Hey there, I'm Silvereyes.

I got into the Warhammer hobby 2 and a half years ago, at the tail end of 40K's 9th edition and into 10th edition. I'm part of a friendly and casual gaming club in Scotland, where we play 40K but other GW games like Age of Sigmar, Horus Heresy, The Old World, and Necromunda. Starting in April, I have become the official tournament organiser for the club. I got a Horus Heresy campaign organised, albeit with a lot of help since I don't play the game. I am running an Old World tournament that is due to wrap up soon. I plan to start an Age of Sigmar tournament next month, and finally a 40K tournament in October to early December.

My main army in 40K is Tau. I love their battlesuits and think the auxillaries are very cool. I also have a small World Eaters army, but I have yet to build them yet.

Outside of 40K, I have played a few games of Necromunda, at first with the Van Saar but really struggled with them. I have switched over to the Palanite Enforcers, but have also found them hard to play, mainly due to how seemingly underpowered they are. I am very excited for the new Palanite models and book, and hope they get a bit of a power boost and some nice new options.

I have also played 2 very casual games of Kill Team, and have an interest in that, and at some point, would like to get deeper into that game. I am also currently learning to play The Age of Sigmar so I can take part in the tournament I am organising. I am playing Skaven and having a lot of fun with them, and frankly, think Space Skaven should be the next new army for 40K.

My biggest weakness is actually painting my models. I keep procastinating, and I feel very intimidated by the fact that so many members of my club have been in the hobby for ages and are very skilled painters, whereas my stuff looks like a toddler doodled over some models.

Looking forward to participating on this forum.

Welcome @Silvereyes!

Don't be afraid to try and paint at your level .

Practise is the key to success, in painting too. The more you will paint, the more you will be skillful with this art.

You just have to find what style of painting suits you and you will be golden.

Welcome to The B&C!

Like @Alby the Slayer said, practice makes perfect.  Don’t be afraid to fail.  I’ve discovered that you’ll have a lot more happy accidents than complete failures while painting.  Things usually turn out better than expected

Welcome!

I too struggled at one point with comparing myself to others in my gaming group that were more advanced and faster.  Focusing on what you can be happy with putting on a game table can help, and it may be a case that trying different painting techniques will lead you to a style that works best for you.  The forums in the forge (General PCA Questions and Works In Progress) can be a great resource to get advice and feedback if you want to work on your painting.

Welcome to the B&C @Silvereyes

where in Scotland is your club located?

painting comes with practice and time. Don’t worry about your skills compared to other be comfortable with your skills.

Also I personally paint my Necromunda models to higher standard than my 40K armies as it smaller amount of models to paint while my KT models are painted to 40K standards

Thank you for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it.

You're all correct about painting. Part of it is just procastination of my end to be honest, but I do feel intimidated as well. I need to get out and just do some stuff, especially since my back log of unpainted models just keeps increasing. I will definetly need to have a read through the forum's painting resources.

Not far outside of Edinburgh. It's a very casual club, we meet up once a week. Officially, we're not a Warhammer club, but Warhammer games do make up the bulk of games played there. 40K is the biggest but we have a good number of Age of Sigmar and Old World players. Horus Heresy has less but I believe a few will be joining that game once 3rd edition arrives.

A few months ago I was on my honeymoon across the UK and Ireland and this store was by my hotel. Edinburgh was gorgeous.

That's lovely, I'm glad you enjoyed the city. I don't go into Edinburgh too much myself, but the city is gorgeous when you can get there on a nice day. The Warhammer store is in a very gorgeous place. Although I don't really use it since I order online from a small business in Livingston. Shame that GW's own Warhammer stores look nice and have great employees but don't really offer much to those who already into the hobby.

Shoot, you got into the hobby and its universe at pretty much the same time that I did! We can be awesome Newbs together. I know that I’m awesome, and I’m betting that you are yourself awesome, so it just works.

I’m not a T’au fan myself but that’s mostly because I think that they look really goofy without their very cool anime-inspired mechs and warsuits. I’m the type of guy that puts helmets on every Astartes and every mini that has a helmet option including Primarchs like Guilliman and Lion El’Johnson. GW makes awesome minis, but I’ve yet to see a face that hasn’t looked horrible! I’m a big fan of Rogal Dorn but I’ve not bought his HH Character Series mini because my Lord God, his face looks so derpy. Poor Lorgar does too. I wonder if there’s any people out there who have 3d printed helmets or better-looking faces for those models? I’ll have to look into that.

That’s enough rambling from me right now. Welcome, my fellow Battle-Brother Newb! Go back to your day of being awesome!

Yeah, I'm a helmet guy as well, although when I finally get around to painting Commander Shadowsun, I do want to try and do her face and her sick ponytail. I mean, I think the Space Marines have always been a bit goofy, the new Saturnine armour for Heresy is so bulky its comical. But then I love the sillier aspects of the 40K universe.

Scotland based as well, but living outside of Glasgow and frequenting Crossfire gaming club in Cumbernauld.

That's great to hear. My own gaming club is really the backbone of my hobby, lots of good friendly people there where we have a great time playing games.

If you want some encouragement painting, you might want to join the Call to Arms painting event which is ongoing until September 15.

I've read about that, it does seem like a great way to encourage yourself to do some painting. I'll consider it, maybe get some of my Kroot backlog done.
