hd3 Posted yesterday at 04:27 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:27 AM So my friend in the history faculty who specializes in history of the eastern front of WW2 Europe is having a birthday. I wanted to make him a commissar painted as a Soviet commissar for a present but I was hoping to get some advice on what paints would best match the Soviet commissar. This is the reference photo and this is the model I'm gonna use. Any suggestions on how to recreate these colours would be welcome. Rusted Boltgun
Sonic Sledgehammer has a video on speed painting Soviets if you're happy with speedpaint / contrast. SS YouTube Soviets For more traditional paints, Vallejo have a 'World War III' set (so may not be period accurate) WW3 set which includes 70.914 Green Ochre 70.879 Green Brown 70.880 Khaki Grey 70.988 Khaki 70.890 Refractive Green 70.887 US Olive Drab 70.982 Cavalry Brown 70.906 Pale Blue And is meant to be combined with their 'utility paint ser' for all the colours you need. I found another Vallejo set, specifically listed for WW2 with the following WW2 set 70.894 Camouflage Olive Green 70.890 Refractive Green 70.880 Khaki Grey 70.988 Khaki 70.924 Russian Uniform WWII 70.886 Green Grey I don't know if that helps or just piles on confusion! Urauloth
I paint historical Soviets and I recommend the Vallejo colours too. They're nice to work with and a very good match to what you'll find in reference books. Brother Anderson
Another +1 from me on the Vallejo paint sets, I use them in my flames of war armies and they're really good.
