Big question is how long it remains; I could easily see SGS deciding to replace it in a year or two with a newer mould, alongside plastic Dreadclaw upgrade and such. The old drop pod has definitely made its mould and production costs back by now. A plastic Death Storm upgrade frame would be great too. MARK0SIAN
There’s got to be some irony award that they re-released the drop pod for the edition that killed drop pod assault. I’m happy it’s back though, I much prefer the older version to the new 40k one. Hfran Morkai Posted yesterday at 12:59 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:59 AM Intriguing. I think I must have about 7 or 8 tucked away but it does seem an odd thing to have two kits for. And well, the changes to composition. Maybe we'll see something pop up shenanigans-wise in a journal. Mate, buy them anyway and just play 1.0 or 2.0. Simple. At the end of the day - play the game you want to amd enjoy. 3.0 isn't the game any of the gamers asked for. And for those who just do modeling and painting, this hasn't got the fluff options that fit the lore. All 3.0 is, is the game the GW marketing monkeys and profit focused execs want to sell you. :cuss: em - it's our hobby not theirs. I can solve that mystery! I am in the process of swapping my Saturnines for some mk. II marines and I was quite surprised to realise that they’re divided in twos on the sprue (so the starter box has three sprues of two models, rather than the two sprues of three models that I expected). So I think it’s simply because it’s not possible to divide them into threes without cutting up the sprues. Doobles57
Nice to see the drop pod back so soon, but I'm not entirely sure why. Seems like a very odd set of decisions to have ended up where we are, but I still prefer it to the new version even if it is a pain to build. Saturnine Termies in 4s rather than 6 does seem odd, especially given the listed squad sizes in the Libers. I know it means 2 sprues rather than 3 in a box, but I'm not sure that's such a big deal given its still less plastic than a tactical squad. Can only assume that they'll be £40-£50 or so for 4 and that 6 would be considered too expensive a box at those rates. Biggest disappointment are the dice. Don't get me wrong, they look like a nice enough set. But was really hoping the faction and legion dice would be making a return. Keeping fingers crossed for them reappearing alongside the relevant campaign books. I just do not understand the logic behind... When "Range Rotation" mechanisms enter into action in order to save shelves space, keeping 2 references for colse to identical items in 2 settings is puzzeling. Of course the old Pod and its weapon has a tad different rule set. And might eventually be Webstore only ? But it is not looking like a rationnal decision while some ranges are half orphans due to minis present on army lists are made "temporarily" made unavailable... Or this is a positive signal taht warhouses are now bigger than ever and that Range rotation will be a thing of the past. One may dream awake. The old Drop pod isn't anyway a mini that easy to build properly, so I am not that sure it is a win to get it restored in the ranges... skylerboodie
Maybe they want to keep the old one around as a basis for the future plastification of old FW resin kits like the Dreadclaw or Deathstorm, that use the old drop pod sprues Sky Potato, Toxichobbit, ThaneOfTas and 2 others 2 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386357-horus-heresy-pre-orders-020825/#findComment-6124734 Share on other sites
Marshal Mittens
Few suprises. I wonder if they inversion beamer kit comes with 1 or 2 inversion beamers, as that's likely to be the most popular. The old Drop pod isn't anyway a mini that easy to build properly, so I am not that sure it is a win to get it restored in the ranges... I think it’s less about range rotation and more about KPI/Profit tracking, sadly. At the end of the 1st edition period, a lot of Heresy kits vanished from the webstore and returned with new product codes. This was followed by some kits - the Armigers most notably - getting a specific Age of Darkness box during second edition. The consensus was that this was all part of GW’s effort to keep better track of the money the specific AoD range was making. Now we’ve reached the point where the 3rd edition rules (as released) are built to lock players into wargear choices based exactly on what is in each AoD branded product. The Drop Pod, along with the Rhino chassis vehicle and Land Raiders, are the only kits I can think of off the top of my head that have rules for use by Space Marine armies in both 40k and 30k. So, we get this kit. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386357-horus-heresy-pre-orders-020825/#findComment-6124772 Share on other sites

That's certainly one way to make the box that much more attractive looking; Tallying everything up, including templates, transfers, dice, and rulebook, and assuming the disintegrator sprue is €37 like all the other upgrades, BUT not including the araknae platform we already are at a whopping €552.25 compared to the box at €245, or 44.3% of the individual price. Once we know the araknae price we#ll probably be looking at an asking price of over 600 for everything individually.
