OverchargeThis!
I'm going to build 6 Bullgryns. To your experience, is the slab shield (+1 Wounds) or the brute shield (4+ invulnerable save) better? I tend to lean in the direction of the brute shield. I am getting ready to assemble and paint a squad of these guys, and want to figure out which of the two shield types I should build them with. Thanks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386359-bullgryn-question-which-shield-type-is-better/ Share on other sites

Invuln is going to be more impactful in my opinion. 1 wound is easy to pick up, especially considering the guns that are being aimed at them. Two damage weapons are still going to need 2 shots to kill them, and I feel like 2 damage is more likely to be aimed at them to take them out, so I think the invuln increase is better as it'll make each of those shots less likely to impact, as AP1/2/3 is plentiful across almost all armies. Bullgry have -1 damage. 2 damage weapons do the same as 1 damage weapons to them. The 4++ is going to be better for them most of the time, because you want them to tank dedicated melee units before they get to your shooty stuff. If you run a big unit, mixing in one or two Slabs could be nice though. My points still stand tho; 2 damage (3 in their case) still kills them in two hits regardless of which shield is chosen, so to me the 4+ is the only real choice. There's so very little D4 weaponry out there it's not worth considering, since it would fall to D3. I think mixing is just a trap. Gonna want to use an invulnerable when you only have health increase available and it's gonna be like having no extra health anyways.
