So no Nightbringer but does come with the Chaos Lord, I guess that's not surprising. Still going to be a nightmare to get hold of a box, I expect.

I also find it funny we're getting an anti-Psyker Sister team... and it's Sisters of Battle. Not that it doesn't make sense or anything, just amusing. Great models all-around though.

Wild that this isn't even the next Kill Team box though:

I know stuff has a habit of occasionally leaking out very far in advance (the Slaves To Darkness army box comes to mind), but damn.

Agreed, though i think it might tie with the Angron leak for when it'll drop (though AoD boxset was a lot longer still).

This does show you though the time frame GW operates on that this exists on this form.

I do like that they kept them as marines wearing jump packs instead of all just mutating for the audacity of using a jump pack. Now just hoping that they actually pared out Warp Talons to get their own kit so they can sculpt them either massively mutated or fully reminiscent of the old metal raptors for maximum memberberries.

I still like the original take on Raptors, as a Cult unto itself; with the acknowledgement that it's pretty incongruous with later presentations of the Horus Heresy.

(Jump Packs were originally said to be very rare during the days of the Horus Heresy. Only the most elite assault units used them, and those on the traitors' side found themselves forming into packs of their fellows, regardless of Legion origin - the bonds of their vocation stronger than those of their gene-seed. Preening egoists, who relished a style of lightning fast terror strikes which saw them modifying their armour to include additional amplifiers and modified voxcasters, and a more daemonic appearance.)

Basically... Raptors weren't just "jump CSMs". They were conceptually closer to the other Cults (maybe a little too close to the old-style Noise Marines).

As to the new kit:

  • They are surprisingly similar to the previous one. (I'd have taken the opportunity to move back towards the 2002 style.)
  • Seeing high definition pics, they still have the "weird lightning" on the legs (that I cut/filed off the old ones). They also still have the amp/vox shoulder pads - but only on one side - and a couple have a vox in the knee pad. (Raptors will continue to potentially be a good source of bits for Emperor's Children.)
  • I wasn't a huge fan of the old heads, for technical reasons (certain ones were nice, but a fair few looked a bit too big and "bobble head"). These new ones... aren't really doing it for me either, though. They've gone very "beak-y" (but not in a "beakie" way). Really wish they'd just gone with 2002-style heads.
  • After the Nachmund Gauntlet: Crusade art having full-robo-talon feet once again, I'm kind of disappointed in the Havoc-esque toe claws.

I wonder if Warp Talons are moving from being all "Warp Claws" to "Warp Talon Weapons". Looking at the Jump Packs:

  • Not modeled with side wings: Raptor (BP+CS), Champion (PP+PS), Skysear (Special Weapon)
  • Modeled with 'Talon side wings: Warp Talon (LCs), Huntmaster (spear), Depredator (chainaxe), ~Curseclaw (mutations), ~Shrieker (BP+CS)

The Shrieker throws that off a bit, though his side wings are different to the others'...

But I could see the Huntmaster, Depradator, and Curseclaw being from the Warp Talons side of the build instructions.

If the mystery box is Grey Knights vs Khorne Berzerkers/Daemonkin I will be buying all three of these. The Pattern is there, the Chambers Militant versus their respective enemies.

Grey Knight Codex with no sign of kit updates followed within 3 months by a brand new upscaled GK Kill Team is just odious enough I would put money on this happening.

Also also, per the Warhammer Instagram it looks like it's the Lord and 5 Raptors for the Chaos side which is a bit of a shame given the article shows 8 Operative types buildable from the kit.

Quite a few of the KT rosters have this set up.  More options than ability to field them gives the roster flexibility.  It's a positive, imo.

An interesting tidbit from the article that might point to one of the teams coming before Shadowhunt:

Quote

On the industrial world of Garranox on the fringe of Ultramar, a hitherto undiscovered tomb complex of night-black stone sparks deadly unrest when work crews experience nightmares and portents of death. They are spurred by the doomsaying of a rogue psyker-turned-prophet known only as the Harbinger.

When you look back at the bespoke Season 1 teams which are about to be rotated out, they've received a similar replacement quite recently:

Krieg -> Pick your 100th Guard team.

Kommandos -> Wrecka Krew

Pathfinders -> Vespid

Novitates -> Celestians

Legionnaires -> Raptors

Voidscarred -> Blades of Khaine

Phobos -> Scouts

Traitor Guard -> ???

So based off the above, could we be getting more Mortal Chaos Chaff next...?

Maybe? Chaos Cult and Beastmen will still be around for a season or two, so the need for replacement isn't as dire Only real things I could think of are:

-Dark Mech kill team

-Stormtrooper-equivalent Traitor Guard

Thousand Sons and Harlequins are about to lose their WD teams too. I think Harlies are out of luck, but maybe the other Chaos gods will get god specific mortals like the Goremonhers

Oh sure, it's more that I would have preferred 10 Raptor models in the box than 5 and a Lord. After all they've done that with the new Deathwatch (in-game the team is only 5 models, but you get 10 of them in the box)

Thought this might be the case after noticing the repeated leg/stone options. Fingers crossed that the chicken legs are a KT specific option (maybe warp talon champion if it's a true dual kit?)
