I know we've got a lot of bits and pieces ongoing in the Nook at the minute, but I was wondering if a Deathwatch (kinda) SM short game would be of any import.

Beginners looking to take the plunge are welcome, we'll handle the crunch, but please bring your own lunch.

Premise:

Third War of Armageddon.

Location gets chosen to allow everyone to get the band together, so Hemlock River, Equatorial Jungle (probably this, or some bloody awful plonk of desert somewhere), possibly in a hive, so it's Cityfight all day, every day.

My initial thoughts (restrictions):

  • Only Armageddon Chapters
    • No homebrew or Marines who simply have no lore being there.
  • No BT characters (They're busy or in crusades etc)
  • No FT characters (They're busy killing civilians)
  • No Relictors (They're busy stealing stuff)
  • No Blackshields
    • However, 1 x Player (with GM work) may buy the 'Return to Duty' deed, which will make the Marine a DW Veteran. This then opens up the full gamut of DW stuff only for that Player.
    • This Player cannot be a Libby.
  • No Tyrannic War Vets
  • No Goddamned Tom Cruise
  • No human, or Xenos characters
  • 1 x Libby character max, highly GM/Player engineered (i.e: I will work with you)
    • No other restrictions on Specialty
  • No Deathwatch training (all RF will require Tests)
  • Spec Ammo restrictions
    • Ammo comes from a limited D10 pool of types I randomly roll, can be taken by whoever, no need to Req
  • Ammo = Rule of 3.
  • Start Play as Rank 1
    • Start with 1500xp
  • Start play with 20 Renown (Respected)
  • All Marines get 3 Fate Points (you don't roll, it's 3)
  • All starting weapons are Standard Marine gear, no shot selector, extra flamer damage, etc.
    • Deathwatch gear may be Req for Sig Wargear
    • Deathwatch gear will be available to obtain/req at plotpoints.
    • Chapter Trappings are unaffected.

Squad Modes:

Normal. Codex, Chapter etc. Cohesion works as normal.

XP and Rewards:

Limited. If the game goes to extra chapters, we do it, if not: Morituri te Salutamus.

Comments, complaints, screaming and peanut throwing welcome.

While I would like to get back to Tarh (and Mithra) in The Blackest Heart game, and am also awaiting the next chapter of Murderers in Black, I am game for another game. Plus I haven’t done a marine character* in a while...

I never quite got to grips with Nergüi and would like another try at him. Now he was from a custom White Scar successor (with Space Wolf Wolf Priest Chaplain/Apothecary hybrid inspired elements), so that is not going to work within the framework of this game.

So perhaps a White Scar that leans into those idea while being compliant with this game’s requirement, and give the lower rank and xp also a much younger marine still finding his way...

* not counting a disgunteled Iron Warrior

As a further temptation I *might* make the Players an offer/raise the idea that if you all play the same Chapter, I will reduce all Cohesion Costs for any SQDM by 1, to a Minimum of 1 (no matter how many bonuses/reductions you have, it will always cost 1).

Goddamn Tom Cruise, and his Goddamn submarine

I'll be honest, I'd prefer to play a bit more Blackest Heart, even if it's not a full session...

...but if that's not an option, I guess Armageddon theme would let me play a Celebrant...? Devastator, maybe...?

I‘m mostly down with @Lysimachus on this one.
Though there might be an opportunity for the  Mentor  Legion here…

I am a bit sorry about the fact that

Sadly kind  of works against  my  idea idea of an AirWAAGH run by the Lord-Commodork from the flight deck of the Ork Royal

Out of curiosity, would a bike be avilable for the White Scar?

As for the umlauts, fair enough, I will seek a compliant name.

If folks would rather get back into Blackest Heart, we could do that on popular vote, but other stuff would have to give way completely and get permanently tied off. I can juggle a bit, but not everything.

I'd also encourage people to look at the new format proposed by Bro T because this will impact quite a bit of stuff.

Thoughts?

While I would like to resume Blackest Heart, I would not want it to be at the expense of other games/projects that you are currently involved in. So am happy to wait a while before picking it up again if that gives you (and others) time to finished things you are involved in or prepare for the next part of Blackest Heart.

Part of the appeal of the set up for Blackest Heart (and Time of Reaving for that matter) is that it is to an extend open ended where we could potential develop our characters quite a bit over time. But it is ‘commitment over time’ intensive and requires all of us to invest said time. If that means that the games happens in bouts, with a segment playing a few months, then resting some and so on (the way that Blackest Heart and Murderers in Black traded active/paused for a while) then that’s fine with me, even if some of the pauses are longer than others.

Hey mate, the Flesh Tearers sent five full companies to Armageddon during the Third War (which admittedly was probably their full chapter strength at the time -- the maniacs), many of who went home as chained-up, frothing madmen in black or were otherwise rendered into paste, so let's not be unreasonable.

On an unrelated note, I would support a mono-chapter approach (whether as an observer or player) for this scenario.

And not to be a stick in the mud, but I would also thoroughly support a return to Blackest Heart, time permitting.

Personal preferences aside, I agree that Blackest Heart is a big game both in scope and cast and I‘ve learned long ago that these sort of campaigns shouldn‘t be forced or rushed, especially on the GM side.

Might also be smart to wait for that one afterbthe jump of the RPG nook into the new format and keep to smaller games / episodes until then?

Yeah, I lierally posted this up, and saw the announcement.

My great timing never fails.

Those still voting for BH?

Seriously, though, I think the transfer to a Club will happen pretty quickly. I would guess that whichever way we go, it will be in the Club.

@Mazer Rackham Which games would you be looking at getting wrapped up before BH could go ahead?

As long as we're not IN the Club...should be fine...

Yes. Not sure yet. I need to evaluate.

Twelve Angry Men is one hell of a film.

Had a look around for deathwatch character generators. The only one i could find seems to be defunct.

Don't worry, Grail we can sort that all out. Unfortunately we'll just hang fire a bit so we can get a few things set up in the forum.

I'm pretty much always down for a game. Have to look up the chapters involved in the 3rd War, it was never one of my big lore dives.

Hmm. Several chapters I've never heard of, or have only heard mention in passing- Angels of Fire, Storm Giants, Omega Marines, and Angels Prophyr all sound interesting and allow for some good roleplay since they are relatively unknown. Raptors and Mortificators are also fun chapters to play with, pragmatic and focused.

This is your huckleberry (the list I'm going from).

I would tentatively be interested, but will need to confirm closer to the start date (whatever that is).

The Silver Skulls are a interesting chapter and have wondered about playing a Diagnosticator character.

First I would probably need a crash course in tarot reading, as well as get this joke out of my system:

Spoiler

LmpwZw

That said, I would also appreciate a conclusion to Murderers in Black before embarking on a new Deathwatch game.

Really this probably deserves to go into a Pre-Club thoughts/prep topic, but I just wanted to go back to this, as I've now had a chance to think about it - when I discuss wrapping up games, of course I only mean the ones I'm running.

I think we'll likely have to tie off Operation Hellstrike, and very likely Blood and Carrion. I apologise to those Players and thank them for their participation, but I reckon these will have to be sacrificed on the altar of Clubbing. Tro's reflections match my instinct, that Blackest Heart is a very large game in scope and will likely have to wait until Time Of Reaving goes into recess, since that too, is heavy on investment. Doesn't mean we can't set it up. I think one option we could use in the Clubs is actually have different threads for different parts, to keep the phases discrete.

The Armageddon game can sweep up the folks outside of the concurrent crop and can be our test bed for Club transition. We'll see how it goes. I'll be popping some ideas up for how the Clubs will look (and reviewing Tro's suggestions in light of BroT's guidance in the WARNO thread.

Bit of a mixed post, this, so if it serves better in the WARNO thread, I'm all for moving it there.

EDIT: Yes, @Mike Zulu, that's probably a good call as well (again, I only take responsibility for my games).

To be honest, I do want to get the final bit of Murderers finished off. I don't want to detract from Reaving and/or Knocking, though, so I've been holding back from doing anything yet.

I've also left the Murderers IC thread open, as people have mentioned needing time for catch-up posts, so I've been waiting for that too.

Maybe I should give it another month or so, and then restart?
