Uprising
Quick question, as I am eyeing the Saturnine box set due to how cheap it is going for online. How common was the Saturnine terminator and Saturnine dreadnought during the early great crusade. I always want to do a small warhound force and wondering if the box is era appropriate. Thank you and take care. Doghouse and N1SB 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386435-saturnine-during-great-crusade/ Share on other sites
librisrouge
From what I've read, Saturnine was more common at the beginning of the Crusade than at the end, similar to volkite. Both technologies proved too difficult to maintain, so they became rarer with time. Astartes Consul
I think it depends on what strand of lore you want to follow. In the past, the semi-official ‘Saturnine’ lore was that it was largely a pre-Crusade thing that fell out of use as Cataphractii / Tartaros was developed. Obviously the newer lore is that Vulkan took this ancient design and reworked it to allow it to be better used, then circulated it to the Legions just before Istvaan. The 2.0 rule book also had a timeline of armour development that mentioned Saturnine around as being around during the Crusade, I think. Personally, I think a Warhounds army using them works. You could even say that, as the suits require the wearer to be psychically attuned, the pre-Butcher’s Nail Warhounds would be more likely to use them than World Eaters. Doghouse
I think you'd be fine, Angron was discovered in the year 899.M30 so this gives you about a hundred years of the Great Crusade to play around as Warhounds from a fictional historical wargaming perspective. The armour itself was Late Unification Wars/Early Great Crusade, the latter having lasted from 798.M30 to about 004.M31. The Unification Wars ended in 712.M30 putting it's hypothetical use at around 660.M30 to maybe 850.M30 taking into account the roughly 80 years between the end of the Unification Wars and the start of the Great Crusade at a guess? It's entirely possible that the first time this armour was seen in true World Eater colours was probably at Isstvan IIII in 005.M31 and all previous versions were in Warhounds colours.
