Hi all. Reading through the requirements for mechanicum list building and its got me going in circles trying to understand English (sadly my only language). I want to throw out this list to the internet which im probably going to use as a basis to expand down the line as I only need the command and tanks to make it.

Crusade Primary Detachment
High Command - Archmagos Macrotek

Command - Magos Macrotek

Auxiliary - Shock Assault
Castellax Destructor Maniple
2x Castellax Multimelta
2x Castellax Darkfire cannon

Auxiliary - Tagmata Cohort
20x Tech-Thrall Covenant
20x Tech-Thrall Covenant

6x Thallax Cohort, 2x Phased plasma-fusil
6x Thallax Cohort, 2x Phased plasma-fusil

Apex - Iron Phalanx
Krios Venator Volkite

Krios Venator Volkite

Triaros Armoured Conveyor Lacrymaerta

Triaros Armoured Conveyor Lacrymaerta

It roughly comes to 2k.

Now for the fun questions from the collective brain of the internet:

Is this list legal or do i need to move some units around? I'm looking at the thralls and transports mostly

Spelling somewhat

Unfortunetly, per page 13, only the Primary, Allied and lord of War detachments is allowed to mix the tech arcana factions.

So the Auxiliary Taghmata Cohort can't mix lacrymaerta thralls and reductor Thallax, they need their own detachments.

Likewise, the tanks in the Apex detachment are Makrotek, so the Triaros have to match their faction and can then no longer carry thralls.

So you would need 1 more Magos to open up another Taghmata Cohort detachment for the Thallax and 1 Armoured Support for the Triaros.

The venators can't split-fire the volkites without forcing the pulsar to fire snap-shots sadly.

If the Makrotek Magi joins one of the other units, they will lose 1 Ld and cool from mixing factions rule, page 181 of the main rule-book. Their comptroller doesn't work if they are on their own, nor does it work if they join the unit of another faction. So Makroteks can only score extra VP from objectives if they are with a Retinue unit.

If you haven't bought the triaros yet, I would skip one of them, and the volkites on the Venators, to free up points for another Magos. I would go for another faction, so either Cybernetica in the Darkfire Castellax, holding a homefield objective, or an Lacrymaerta/reductor for taking one further up. Not sure how many points remain, but either a lightning cannon Krios, a logistical benefitted retinue unit for the Makrotek or techpriests for whatever unit doesn't have a Magos should fit in.

Yeah I figured that was the case. Kind of a shame and a bit of a pain in the ass but annoyingly seems lore friendly.

Cheers for the input. I think i will keep massaging it to get it to where I want it and will probably end up with an arch and 2 Magos. I have a pair of the mechanicum troop boxes laying around which I was planning on using as a starting force in 2.0. I'm mainly trying to work that into 3.0 but with a minimum of 3 sub factions to start with its become a bit of a headache.

Also those heavy transports are a pain to get into lists

I have not crunched the points but how about restructuring to something like this:

Crusade Primary Detachment
High Command - Archmagos Macrotek

Command – Magos* – Prime upgrade Logistica for:

1 unit of 9x Thallax Cohort, 3x (or 4) Phased plasma-fusil

Command – Magos*

*Lacrymaerta or Cybernetica for the Magos’s depending whether you want to join them to the Thralls or Castellax

Auxiliary - Shock Assault
Castellax Destructor Maniple
2x Castellax Multimelta
2x Castellax Darkfire cannon

Auxiliary - Tagmata Cohort
20x Tech-Thrall Covenant
20x Tech-Thrall Covenant

Apex - Iron Phalanx
Krios Venator

Krios Venator

Auxiliary – Armoured Fist

Triaros Armoured Conveyor

Triaros Armoured Conveyor

You end up not using three Thallax and need one additional Magos, but the Magos’s can join whichever unit you want to of Thralls or Cybernetic and work better with them then as Macrotek.

You could even have the Archmagos swap out to one of those if you want and swap the Iron Phalanx to an Auxiliary Armoured Support as the bonus from the Iron Phalanx may not be worth the loss in utility of the Archmagos joining a unit without negatives. Hard to say.
