Indy Techwisp
I really hope this doesn't just replace Firestorm Assault. The entire selling point of the detachments system was that they were (for the most part) subfaction agnostic, so having all the codex Marine detachments (except Gladius) get essentially turned into "proper" subfaction Detachments would be annoying. So far GW hasn't replaced any Detachments apart from Index ones that have vanished when the codex dropped. But this does feel so close to Firestorm Assault that it makes me nervous. If they had also taken out Burning Vengeance then I'd be proper happy. There'd be a clear distinction between one detachment supporting transports and other really focused on infantry. Heck, it would have let them fit in some sort of resilience strat, because y'know, Salamanders. Malakithe
I like that its just different enough. What wording limits this to Salamanders in particular? I've not seen the actual rules Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386467-new-salamander-detachment/#findComment-6127399 Share on other sites

Now you do not have to include Vulkan but clearly there is an incentive to do so which will make your army Salamanders. jaxom
I’m curious if we’ll see something similar for other detachments. A common complaint is that the Chapters with supplements have an edge over those without in that they get access to special units without really losing anything. Producing chapter-specific versions of the core codex detachments to make them a bit strong with their associated Chapter would help to level the playing field slightly. Codex Chapters do already get the +1 to Wound against OOM targets. I wonder if this new Detachment will also get that bonus since it does require a chapter-specific character to unlock the full benefits. jaxom 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386467-new-salamander-detachment/#findComment-6127424 Share on other sites

I could see GW over correcting the faction issue by limiting them in a very stifling way.
