Hello fraters,

What do we think the role of Veteran Tacticals is now?

Their Line (1) makes me think they want to be on objectives. But what loadout? Disintegrators they'll just blow themselves up. Volkite chargers feel too short-ranged. Bolters they're just plain worse than a larger squad of regular tacticals for the same cost with Fury. What's their job here? Load up with combi-meltas in a Rhino?

Deop pod, Disintigrators, come down, kill a squad on an objective and take it on their own.

Agree. If you're not sure of using disintegrators, try other weapons like plasmas or melta or combi weapons, but deploying with drop pod I think is the best way to use them. After all, one or two units in deep strike are more than enough in my opinion in the current edition,in an standard army list. And Tactical Vets in drop pod are one of the best options available for Legiones Astartes.

I forgot something

Tactical vets are Line (1), more useful for talking objectives. For more specific targets, maybe Support Squads or even better Veteran Support Squads.

And yes, plasma for infantry and melta for armored targets

Im building an army set around the Scouring, with the surviving marines just trying to get the hell out of there. Theming it around small groups of veterans, lots of conversions for the army so just hoping really that it is a viable option!

I'm trying to create an squad using some spare miniatures. I play with SoH so, I'm going to experiment with Banestrike bolters. And later, with combi-weapons (mix of combi plasmas and combi fusion)

I will be honest im not completely convinced the banestrikes are worth the cost (especially with the reduced range and the SoH RoW being somewhat worse for general shooting attacks) but they are going in my army because of the theme!

As a bit of fun I'm having a standard 'inductii' guy (black-nosed beakie helm) armed with a disintegrator in my veterans squad. Basically they keep getting the new guy in the squad and handing him that gun, as its super effective, but very unlikely he will survive and they'll then need another newbie for their next engagement.

I will employ a Drop pod to get properly at range.

Now I need just to get a drop pod...

I don't have yet enough disintegrators but I want to use Veterans.

I'm really warming up to the different veteran types, Tacticals I'm looking at running with chain bayonets, heavy and special weapons and power fist or thunder hammer sergeant like a 40k tactical squad. The cost of the unit is fairly low better BS and mental stats over regular tacs and they are harder to shift in CC. They seem really good for holding more contested objectives where getting charged is an inevitability. Hold on long enough for your non vanguard units like retinues to back them up when it gets spicy.

Humm heavy weapons...yes, why not? Maybe a pair of Multi-Melta,for example, can be a good addition, right? Or Heavy Flamers.
