Because the lore will make you end it all? Me too buddy. Me too.

“oh no Planet X is being invaded by Orks and Eldar and world eaters and death guard and thousand sons and dark eldar and the imperial guard and the traitor guard and now the Tau are here uh oh the Votann and Kroot have shown up”

Total microtransaction clown show and has shown how bad the trashware games have impacted the future of Warhammer video games.

So this is going to be a State of Survival game with a 40K skin? At least balance will then be okay because the person who invests more via microtransactions will have the advantage over the F2P peasant folk.

How much did it cost to get all the Warhammer DLC on release to stay current (and preorder Chaos Warriors) across all three games? It’s expensive. Paradox expensive with none of the depth.

If you buy all the DLC at full price then of course that's going to add up to quite a lot, but that's for content from over 30 years of WHFB with them going deep into the lore to add basically everything they can find to fill it out as much as they can. The majority of content is available from just buying the games, and even if don't buy the DLC it still shows up within your games in use by the AI.  Unless you specifically want to play using the specific stuff included then none of the DLC is necessary, You don't need to buy all all of it. It's not like Paradox games where if you don't buy them you're getting a sub-standard version of what amounts to a half-complete feature so without them you don't have the "proper" game.

I wouldn't conflate expansion pack DLC with microtransactions regardless though. They're quite different things.

No one remembers Dark Nexus? That was supposed to be a 40K MOBA in the style of LoL but was cancelled

We remember it, it's just not relevant. I mean we don't act like there should never be another Warhammer MMO because Age of Reckoning was shut down do we?

I like everything about all of these rumors. Total War and Dawn of War are series I’ll always be interested in, and I’m very intrigued by a 40K tank game. I know World of Tanks has had 40K crossovers already that actually felt well done, so I’m hopeful that they’ll handle the setting properly.

I think for Tw40k the map would have to be at least an entire system not a DoW planet, my guess would be each province is a planet, Id go for each settlement is a planet and that way so many factions can be represented. Apologies to White Scars but the Nids turn up like the Mongols in Medieval

Maybe siege mechanics change to orbital landing mechanic

Don't think this would work - that'd effectively be like having a traditional Total War game where the entire map is sea and every settlement it's own tiny island, where the majority of battles are between ships rather than armies. It also really only allows factions like Space Marines to excel because planetary assaults and boarding actions is their thing; it would take away most of the identity of a faction like the Guard, which is all about massive grinding land battle campaigns, and would pretty much invalidate things like Knights altogether.

For any TW:40K game you have to strike a balance where space is important, but it's not the defining feature. This isn't Battlefleet Gothic, after all. So IMO what you want is a star system with 3-6 main planets on it, where each planet is roughly analogous to a continent in TW:W and space is the sea that separates them. That way you can have armies moving between planets and boarding actions (just like travelling across the sea and naval battles in TW:W), but the majority of the warfare is about conquering the planets themselves. Sure some will be relatively small where taking a single location is enough control the entire planet, but others need to massive with multiple battlefronts, hive cities and spaceports to take.

Think you need to take a closer look at the logos of the "plans" for 2026-2028

As opposed to the video stating that TW:WH 4 will take place on the moon? Or that there will be yearly releases of a new TW:WH for the next 39997 years. And that if you do buy each and every of the 40000, TW:WH's you'll unlock the: "New Super Mega Ultra Hyper Gigantic Colossal Titanic Jumbo Gargantuan Grand wahoo (sic) Immortal Galaxy Empires" campaign.

But yeah, I'm sure the logos of the plans for 2026, 2028 was the dead(est) giveaway

In my defence I watched it with the sound off

My guess is that a WoT-style 40k game wouldn't actually be tanks. It would be Knights or Titans.

I think a Knight scale game would be awesome. Titans are cool, but at Titan scale you could still have squads of infantry and smaller vehicles be threatening without having to resort to rediculous number of enemies. And I just like Knight scale stuff better

I'm a bit iffy on the idea of a 40K total war game. I feel like "modern" warfare doesn't really work in the game's style. Early modern, sure. Empire and Shogun II's Fall of the Samurai are two of my favorite TW games, but anything past the mid-19th century tends to get messy. Napoleon's Great War mod has the issue of units quickly getting wiped off the board by enemy fire, and that's with just the bolt action weapons. Once you start accounting for machine guns, mortars, long-range artillery, etc. the whole situation just gets even messier.

If they were to do any other Warhammer property as a Total War game, I feel like Age of Sigmar would be the best bet. A natural progression from WHFB, with different theaters based off the different realms, sort of like how Empire had the Americas, India, and Europe, Eurasia, the Middle East, & North Africa.

That'll come 4 years after the Wh40k trilogy wraps up!

Only semi joking.

I think they could do some reallllly cool stuff with the open setting of AoS. The biggest problem is that most factions don't have a ton of depth in terms of roster, but that not might a bad thing. As much as a I have loved the TWWH trilogy, I think some of the roster additions just feel like bloat. 40k just doesn't seem right without changing the battle formula

GW and Cubicle 7 have been working on fleshing AOS out a bit more over the last couple of years. That in mind, Creative Assembly themselves were able to further flesh out factions like Cathay and Kislev whose lore has been largely relegated to small tidbits and outdated RPG books for the last few years. I feel like they'd be able to figure out some decent lore for AOS if given the chance (and some oversight and notes by GW, obv).
