GW Base Size question (Kroot Example)

I have some figures that I wanted to base bigger than 25mm and smaller than 32mm, and obtained some 28mm ish bases. I also obtained a few Kroot bits.

i saw that according to the website, Kroot Farstalkers are on 28.5mm except one is on 32mm and one is on 28mm.  What the heck is going on there - one model is on a very marginally smaller base? Which one? Or is this a typo on the GW site?

But the main question is, for official GW bases, are there genuinely both 28mm and 28.5mm, can you tell the difference in person, and which models tend to come with which, if there is a rule of thumb?

The wierd base size for the Kroot Farstalkers are indeed a thing, as the issue has come up elsewhere on the interner.  Looking at the Kroot Farstalker instructions sheets, it looks like the 28mm is for one of the kroothounds - though why the marginally smaller base, and why only one of the hounds, remain mysteries.

So the 32mm is for the leader then?

According to the instruction, yes - if you look at his instructions, there is a little "32mm" in a small gray circle next to the base.

For a difference that small, you're only going to notice if you directly compare the bases against each other. It won't be visually noticable and it certainly won't make any difference whatsoever in game. Though to be honest base sizes fluctuate so much between model updates these days (and don't actually make really any impact on the game unless you do something ridiculous like put your Hormagaunts on 60mms) that I wouldn't worry too much anyway.

It is a very strange decision to be sure, though- 28.5mm for a single model doesn't make a lot of sense. At least a 32mm for the leader gives a bit of an instant visual cue as to his status.
